Today we’d like to introduce you to Katina Norman.
Hi Katina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
About three years ago, I decided that I needed a side hustle. I wanted to make money doing something that came naturally to me. I realized that I could use my everyday corporate America skills and create my own business, helping entrepreneurs the way I help my colleagues at my full-time job.
I decided to step out on faith and start my own business, taking the necessary steps to become legitimate and build my brand. During this time, my Dad became seriously ill and was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. He passed away in March of 2019 and I launched Service Savvy, LLC a couple of weeks later, determined to continue to make my Dad proud of me. Over time I built my presence via social media and word of mouth, and my clientele has helped me to generate more revenue than I initially thought possible. This is only the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey, and I thank God for it all.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I can honestly say the road has been fairly smooth. I believe it has a lot to do with my business prayer and my faith. God sends me clients, and I work to meet their needs to the best of my ability. My struggles include imposter syndrome and being too hard on myself. I’m also not the best when it comes to networking because I am often unsure of myself, but I’m working on that.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Service Savvy, LLC helps entrepreneurs streamline business operations by providing administrative, technical, and creative support from a virtual location. Many entrepreneurs don’t realize how time-consuming it is to draft documents, run reports, maintain an online social media presence, manage a database, etc., and that’s where I come in. Time is money, and when it comes to business, entrepreneurs should spend their time on the core activities that will drive revenue to increased profits. When business owners delegate their mundane, time-consuming tasks to a Virtual Assistant, they have more time to focus on doing what they love.
One thing that sets me apart from others is my passion for providing exceptional customer service. Unfortunately, in the Black community, we have a stigma for being lazy entrepreneurs with horrible customer service. Having experienced lackluster customer service personally from my brothers and sisters, I am determined to break the stigma and prove that black women and men do care about our businesses. This is why I go above and beyond to please my clients.
I’m also proud to be able to incorporate my passion for video editing into my business. I have an Associates Degree from the Art Institute of Atlanta, which I obtained in 2002, but I’ve never really been able to make a substantial living in video production. With Service Savvy, LLC, I’ve been able to promote my skills as a video editor and a production assistant. I’m living my dream.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
One of the best things I like about our city is that there is always something to do. Dining, shopping, entertainment or just chilling in the park. FILA!
The least thing I like about our city is the crime rate. It’s really getting more and more out of control, and it’s depreciating not just the city but the state of Georgia.
