Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Scofi.
Hi Kim, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
United Military Care. Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting U.S. military Veterans and their families across the state of Georgia. Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Marietta, the organization exists to ensure that Veterans receive the care, resources, and community support they need to thrive in life following military service.
From our earliest days, United Military Care has focused on meeting Veterans where they are. What began as a local effort to address unmet needs has grown into a statewide network of services that has supported tens of thousands of Veterans and family members. Our organization was built on the understanding that Veterans face challenges that go beyond initial access to benefits; our team understands that food insecurity, housing instability, isolation, and difficulty navigating complex systems of care also affect the wellness of Georgia’s military community.
At the heart of United Military Care’s work is our mission to serve, educate, and uplift Veterans and communities throughout the state of Georgia. The organization is committed to helping Veterans and families of all ages and backgrounds access essential support while also empowering them with knowledge and connections that promote long term stability and well being. Our vision is a future built on strong communities and strategic service, where Veterans and their families always come first.
We deliver on our mission through a range of direct services and community based programs. We provide customized emergency assistance for Veterans facing immediate hardship, while our Field Ready Vets program provides backpacks full of critical care items to homeless Veterans via local law enforcement and governemtn agencies. Our team collaborates to provide individualized resource referrals to Veterans who need specialized assistance, while taking a wide-angle approach to care through our large-scale We CARE Vet Fair™ events that bring together service providers in communities across Georgia. Finally, we play a key role in building collaboration across the state through the Georgia Veterans Network, a program that strengthens connections between Veterans, service organizations, government agencies, and local communities.
Education, prevention, and outreach are central to our approach. By working closely with partners, first responders, and community leaders, we ensure Veterans are identified early and connected to the right resources at the right time.
Through compassion, collaboration, and a deep respect for service, our goal is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Georgia’s Veterans and their families. Our motto is simple: Strong communities. Stategic service. Veterans & families first.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our staff has big hearts for this work, but we are often faced with overwhelming need and resource scarcity. Finding innovative ways to meet the needs of our Veterans and their families is both a challenge and an opportunity; using our resources wisely allows us to make a big impact with limited financial support. in addition, Veterans often face overlapping issues that lead to complex, multi-faceted challenges in providing effective care.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about United Military Care, Inc. ?
We are a Marietta, Georgia-based nonprofit organization dedicated to serving U.S. military Veterans and their families with compassion, connection, and practical support. Since our founding in 2012, our work has centered on meeting Veterans where they are and helping them navigate life after service with dignity and confidence.
What we do best is connect. We specialize in connecting Veterans with resources that can assist with unmet needs and bridging the gap between each person we serve and the resources available to them. We provide direct assistance for basic needs, one on one support for Veterans experiencing isolation or hardship, and large scale community events that bring trusted service providers together in one accessible place. Our We CARE Vet Fair™ events, emergency response efforts, and statewide partnerships are all designed to reduce barriers and create clear pathways to stability and well being.
What sets us apart is our deeply personal, community driven approach. We do not believe in one size fits all solutions. Our team takes the time to listen, build trust, and walk alongside Veterans as they navigate complex systems and challenges. We also place a strong emphasis on collaboration, working closely with nonprofit partners, government agencies, first responders, and community leaders to ensure Veterans receive timely, coordinated support rather than being passed from one organization to another.
Brand wise, we are most proud of the trust we have earned within the military community. That trust is built on consistency, respect for service, and a genuine commitment to follow through. Veterans know that when they reach out to United Military Care, they will be treated with respect and connected to real help.
What we want readers to know most is that United Military Care exists to ensure that Veterans and families have direct access to strong, stable communities and strategic service. Everything we do is guided by service, collaboration, and a sincere desire to honor those who have served by standing with them long after the uniform comes off.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson we have learned is that meaningful support starts with listening. Veterans’ experiences, challenges, and needs are not the same, and lasting impact does not come from one size fits all solutions. It comes from taking the time to understand each individual story and responding with care, patience, and respect. We have found that our fellow Americans, specifically civilian partners and volunteers, have often underestimated the impact that their care and support can have within the Veteran community. When people from all walks of life come together to provide support, we can accomplish goals that may otherwise be unreachable.
We have also learned that no single organization can do this work alone. Real change happens through collaboration and trust, both with the Veterans we serve and with the partners who stand beside us. When communication is strong, Veterans are better supported and communities are stronger.
Above all, our journey has reinforced that showing up consistently matters. Trust is built over time, and when Veterans know they are not being forgotten, even small moments of connection can lead to life changing outcomes.
