Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimbreille Davison.
Hi Kimbreille, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I didn’t wait until everything was perfect to start. I built my photography business right after graduating high school, with more vision than resources and no guarantee it would work.
I had already been introduced to photography during my junior year through yearbook and working as a basketball manager, where I fell in love with capturing real, unfiltered moments. But after graduation, I made the decision to take it seriously. In May, I officially started my business, Passion Lens by LadyK, not fully knowing where it would take me but knowing I wanted to create something of my own.
When I entered college at Morris Brown College, I wasn’t starting from scratch. I was building on something I had already created. Still, it wasn’t easy. I was a new student trying to find my place while also growing a business at the same time. I didn’t have all the best equipment, and I wasn’t fully out there yet. A lot of people didn’t know my name, and I spent a lot of time doing free and low-cost shoots just to build my portfolio and get exposure.
At times, it felt like I was putting in more work than I was getting back. I was balancing school, personal challenges, and trying to stay consistent with something I believed in, even when growth felt slow. But I kept going. I kept showing up, improving my skills, and trusting that consistency would eventually pay off.
Over time, things started to come together. More people began to recognize my work, I started getting more opportunities on campus, and I grew more confident not just as a photographer, but as a business owner. I upgraded my equipment, developed my style, and expanded into capturing events, portraits, and personal branding.
Even now, I’ll say I’m still growing. I’m still working on getting fully out there and reaching more people. But now I have a foundation. What started as a small step after high school has turned into something real, something that continues to grow with me.
Passion Lens by LadyK isn’t just a business to me. It’s a reflection of my journey, my consistency, and my willingness to keep going even when things aren’t perfect. And I’m just getting started.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has pushed me to become stronger and more focused on what I’m building.
Starting my business right after high school while stepping into college at Morris Brown College meant I had to figure things out quickly. I was balancing being a full time student, managing personal challenges, and building a brand at the same time. I didn’t have all the resources in the beginning, and I wasn’t fully known yet, so I had to create my own opportunities.
One of the biggest challenges was putting in consistent work without immediate results. I spent a lot of time doing free and low cost shoots to build my portfolio and get exposure. Instead of seeing that as a setback, I used it as a foundation. It helped me sharpen my skills, build relationships, and gain real experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
I also had to learn how to grow without comparing myself to others. In a creative field, it’s easy to feel like you’re behind, but I realized that my journey is different. Once I focused on my own vision and stayed consistent, I started to see real progress.
On top of that, I’ve had to push through personal and health challenges, which required discipline and resilience. There were moments where it would have been easy to slow down or stop, but I chose to keep going and stay committed to my goals.
Looking back, those challenges didn’t hold me back they built me. They taught me how to be patient, how to stay consistent, and how to believe in what I’m creating even when growth isn’t immediate. Now, I move with more confidence because I know I can handle the process, not just the outcome.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a photographer and the founder of Passion Lens by LadyK, a brand centered around storytelling and capturing moments that people can hold onto for a lifetime. I specialize in event photography, portraits, and personal branding, especially within college communities and for young creatives who want to document their journey.
A lot of my work focuses on real, in-the-moment experiences like campus events, celebrations, milestones, and everyday moments that deserve to be remembered. I’m known for capturing authenticity. I don’t just take pictures, I try to tell a story through every shot so when people look back at their photos, they feel something, not just see it.
What I’m most proud of is building something from the ground up at a young age and staying consistent even when growth felt slow. I started my business right after high school, and coming into college, I had to put myself out there, build my name, and earn trust in a new environment. Seeing people now recognize my work, book me, and genuinely support my brand is something I don’t take for granted.
What sets me apart is my purpose behind what I do. I’m very intentional about making my photography accessible, especially for students and people who may not always have the resources for high end photography. I’ve done free and low-cost shoots because I understand how important it is to capture moments that you can’t get back.
I also bring a different level of care to my work. I pay attention to the details, the emotions, and the energy of the moment. I’m not just showing up to take pictures, I’m showing up to create something meaningful for the people I work with.
At the end of the day, Passion Lens by LadyK isn’t just about photography. It’s about impact, storytelling, and creating memories that last long after the moment is gone.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned on my journey is that growth takes consistency, not perfection.
When I first started my business, I felt like I had to have everything figured out like having the best equipment, the perfect edits, a clear plan. But I quickly realized that waiting until everything is perfect will keep you from starting at all. Most of my growth came from just showing up, even when I felt unsure, and learning as I went.
There were times when I felt like I wasn’t progressing fast enough or getting the recognition I expected. In those moments, I had to remind myself that building something real takes time. Staying consistent, even when it feels like no one is watching, is what really makes the difference.
I’ve also learned to trust my own vision. It’s easy to compare yourself to others, especially in a creative field, but I realized that what makes my work meaningful is that it’s mine. Once I focused on developing my own style and purpose instead of trying to match others, I became more confident in what I create.
That lesson has changed how I approach everything not just photography, but life. I don’t wait for perfect conditions anymore. I start where I am, stay consistent, and trust that growth will come with time.
