Meet Labre of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Labre.

Hi Labre, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Honestly, I thought I was going to be a nurse forever. But one day God gave me a revelation to start acting, and I’ve been chasing that dream ever since. Acting and being on set is something that truly makes me happy, and I know that’s my purpose in life! I’m originally from New Jersey, but four years ago, I made the bold decision to move to Atlanta by myself to pursue my acting career and step fully into my purpose.

Like many people who move to chase a dream, I quickly learned that life has a way of testing you. Once I got to Atlanta, life started “lifeing,” and acting quickly took a back seat. Between responsibilities, work, and just trying to survive, I became discouraged and started putting my dream on hold. I got so busy handling everyday life that I almost convinced myself that maybe acting just wasn’t in the cards for me.

Everything started to shift when I met a woman who is now one of my good friends. She works in makeup for film and television on set, and she was the person who pushed me back toward my purpose. She encouraged me to stop doubting myself and pointed me in the right direction—acting coaches, professional headshots, and the practical steps I needed to actually begin again.

I remember being at my 9-to-5 one day feeling completely drained, depressed, and honestly over it. I knew deep down that I wanted more. I wanted to walk in purpose. I wanted to feel fulfilled. That day, I decided to listen to what my friend had been telling me and take the first real steps toward acting again.

What happened next felt like confirmation from God.

Within my very first week of taking action, I found myself on set doing background work for Season 3 of P-Valley—one of my favorite TV shows on Starz. I honestly couldn’t believe it. Standing on that set, watching everything happen behind the scenes, I could finally see the vision for myself. That experience made everything feel real, and it pushed me to start taking acting seriously.

After doing background work for a few months, I built up the confidence to audition for my first independent film—and I got the role. I studied hard, prepared myself, and was ready. Unfortunately, that film never went into production, and I found myself discouraged all over again.

But I kept my faith in God.

Not long after, S. Carter Productions reached out to me through Instagram and offered me a lead role because they remembered my audition from that previous project. That moment reminded me that nothing is ever wasted. Even when things don’t work out the way we expect, God is still working behind the scenes.

I went all in. I worked overnight shifts at my job, went to the gym, and studied my lines every single day. Eventually, they flew me to Los Angeles to film for a few weeks, and that experience changed everything for me. Being there, working, creating, and living in that space made me realize without a doubt that acting is my passion. It brings me joy in a way nothing else does.

When I returned to Atlanta, I was ready for the next big opportunity. I had several offers come my way, but I had to turn some of them down because they didn’t align with my morals and values. That was an important lesson for me—success means nothing if you have to compromise who you are to get it.

I continued taking on smaller roles, but eventually opportunities slowed down again. Acting had to take another back seat because life started happening again. There were hard seasons. At one point, when I couldn’t work, I even had to do DoorDash just to stay afloat. Through it all, I kept going.

Then I had another revelation from God. I felt led to start doing background work again, so I listened.

This time, I found myself working background at Tyler Perry Studios for one of Tyler Perry’s upcoming television series ‘Where’s The Smoke’. I was grateful just to be in that environment again—to be surrounded by talented actors and actresses, learning, observing, and reminding myself that I belong in those rooms too.

Right now, I continue to audition, keep faith on the hard days, and trust the process even when things feel slow. I also sing, and I have a degree in the career that currently serves as my 9-to-5, but I know in my heart that it no longer aligns with who I am becoming.

My purpose is bigger.

I’ve already accomplished things I once only dreamed about—landing my first lead role in the film ‘Scheming’ on Tubi, working on the set of one of my favorite shows, and building real momentum in an industry that requires both talent and resilience. My next upcoming film is expected to be released in Winter 2026, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.

My ultimate goal is to become a full-time actress and finally walk away from my 9-to-5 for good.

More than anything, I want my story to inspire others. I want people to know that no matter how dark, delayed, or unpromising life may seem, you should never give up on your purpose. Don’t stop chasing the thing that makes you happy—the thing that doesn’t feel like work because it feels like who you are.

Sometimes the path won’t be straight. Sometimes life will force your dream into the background. But if it’s truly meant for you, it will always find its way back.

And when it does, you have to be brave enough to say yes.

Honestly, it was very hard for me to share this because I’m naturally a very private person. I usually keep my journey, my struggles, and my personal growth to myself. But I’ve learned that sometimes your story isn’t just for you—it’s meant to help someone else keep going. If sharing my journey inspires even one person not to give up on themselves, then being vulnerable was worth it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Moving to Atlanta on my own played a major role in my growth as a woman. It pushed me outside of my comfort zone and gave me real-life experiences that helped shape my perspective and strengthen my discernment. Being in a new city allowed me to connect with people from many different backgrounds and levels of influence, which taught me a lot both personally and professionally.

At the same time, the transition came with challenges. I moved 12 hours away from home, so there was a lot of pressure knowing I had to stay focused and work hard to build the life and career I wanted for myself. During my time in Atlanta, I also experienced personal loss after one of my friends was murdered, and that deeply affected me emotionally. There were moments where I struggled with doubt, especially because opportunities in acting can be unpredictable and come in waves.

However, every time I questioned whether I should continue, new opportunities and confirmations would come my way that reminded me why I started. Through all of it, I’ve learned the importance of staying grounded in my purpose and remaining committed even during uncertain seasons.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an actress with a deep passion for drama and suspense films, where I’m able to fully connect with complex emotions and powerful storytelling. I’m known for my lead role as Mariah in the film Scheming on Tubi, a role that allowed me to showcase not only my talent but also my love for bringing real, raw characters to life.

What sets me apart is not just my passion for acting, but my purpose behind it. Like many others, I want to be successful doing what I love, but for me, success is bigger than recognition—it’s about impact. I want to inspire others through my journey, especially by showing the importance of faith in God even when life feels uncertain and everything seems lost.

I believe that purpose, perseverance, and faith go hand in hand. Acting is more than entertainment for me—it’s a calling. Through every role, every setback, and every opportunity, I strive to remain authentic, kind, and grounded. My goal is not only to grow as an actress, but also to be a light for others who may be chasing their own dreams and need a reminder not to give up.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something many people don’t know about me is what I actually do with my degree and in my professional career. I tend to keep that part of my life pretty private for two reasons. First, while I’m grateful for the opportunities my career has provided—and it’s the 9-to-5 that helps keep my bills paid—I know deep down that it’s not my true purpose. My passion and calling have always been in acting, creativity, and inspiring others through storytelling.

Second, I work in a very strict and highly professional field where confidentiality is important on a day-to-day basis, so privacy naturally comes with that territory. It’s a major part of my life, but it’s separate from the dreams I’m actively building.

I’ve learned that sometimes your job and your purpose are not the same thing. While my career has helped me stay grounded and responsible, my heart has always been set on something bigger—walking fully in the path God has for me and pursuing the passion that truly makes me feel alive.
