Meet Ladyia Grimes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ladyia Grimes.

Hi Ladyia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been a go-getter, and I have always been determined to make sure I can always afford my needs and wants. After having two girls and being their number 1 provider, it just made me go harder. I always worked hard and wanted better for myself, so November 2020, I moved out to Atlanta because I needed a change of scenery and I just knew it was more to life than working a 9-5. I also just wanted to be part of Atlanta life. I moved out here with no expectation, no job, and no knowledge of what Atlanta had to offer. I was searching the web one day came across Pearl the Stylist Studio page and seen she was looking for braiders. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try. All tho I have always braided back home in Philly, I never looked at it as a full-time job. So when Pearl reached out to me and wanted me a part of the team, I just knew this move was meant for me. And it has been up ever since. A true blessing. I can’t want to explore other business ventures.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It started off rough. Moving out here with no job, no interviews, just my savings and the things I already had was kinda hard… it was times when I started to apply for any job because I seen that I was losing money and not bringing any in… when I am broke I am depressed.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a braider at Pearl the Stylist Studios. I specialize in Knotless braids. I am looking to add more styles in the coming months. I am a perfectionist and a people person. I believe that professionalism is a must when working in customer service.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I believe that a mentor is very important. Having someone in your corner that has already been through those steps and who knows the struggles can be helpful to you. Just being around that kind of wisdom and knowledge just opens up so many doors and have you thinking outside the box. Atleast that is how it is for me.
