Meet LaToya Morgan

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaToya Morgan.

LaToya, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
There wasn’t a singular moment that led up to this point but a few different isolated instances that led to Blossom + Grace. All of the products that I sell are the solution of a skincare or haircare fail. For example, A few years back, I became really interested in using natural ingredients for my face. After learning that using coconut oil as a moisturizer was screwing up the skin on my face, I decided to buy a natural moisturizer from a popular cosmetic store. The moisturizer was amazing. The problem was, it was $30 for a 1.5 oz container. That wasn’t economically sustainable for me. So I decided to research essential oils and other oils that would be beneficial as a moisturizer.

I played around with some recipes to create a face moisturizing oil. I’ve been using it consistently for the past four years. I have similar stories for all of my products. They have a common theme, not wanting to use a lot of chemicals on my skin or hair and not wanting to break the bank on a quality natural product. I use all of the products faithfully. In regards to my haircare products, they solve the problem of moisture retention. After a couple of days after a wash, my hair would get so dry. I researched natural ingredients that would help my hair retain moisture and it has been the best thing I’ve done for my hair. People have always asked about the products I use, especially on my hair. One day, I decided to start selling them as a resource for others under the same mindset. A quality, natural product that doesn’t hurt your pockets. I’m not into price gouging just because “natural” or “essential oil” are buzzwords. I really want to give people access to a quality product they can trust.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Blossom + Grace is a relatively new business. We launched March 1, 2021. I’m focused on growing more customers. I think the biggest learning experience has understood the concept of business, social media businesses, and how to grow my customer base. It’s a new industry for me, I work in education, so the learning curve is steep. I wouldn’t say it is a struggle, more so a new learning experience. The wave has been good so far.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work in education. I was a teacher for nine years before working for an educational non-profit. In a nutshell, we partner with schools implementing a new instructional model that gives students a more relevant and authentic learning experience. Our students learn competencies that will set them up for any path they choose after graduation. They learn through case methodology working with companies from all over the country. It is really cool. I’m really blessed to work in this environment because of the opportunities my kids (students) get from being a part of this. I’d say I specialize in going out of my way to help others. Whether it’s my students, teachers, co-workers, customers, family, etc., I’ve very customer-service oriented. I love to help – which is why I created Blossom + Grace. My products have helped me so much. My wish is that they help my customers just as much. I’m most proud of overcoming the fear of starting a business. The reception has been mind-blowing. I’m so glad I got out of my own way.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to muscle through fear/discomfort. Starting a new business is a scary thing. I’ve had to learn to walk through the fear and discomfort one step at a time. That helps keep anxiety at bay. Also, an important lesson that I’m learning is that the goal is progression, not perfection.
