Meet Linda Ossowicz of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Ossowicz.

Linda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Linda and I’m a makeup artist. I started playing with special effects makeup while living in Chattanooga, TN in 2015, I always enjoyed doing it as a past time and I was encouraged by many people in my life to pursue it as a career option. I never really considered it until around 2020, the relationship I was in ended and I decided it was a good time to make a big life change. I enrolled in The Makeup Designory in Manhattan and moved into an apartment in Brooklyn. I loved my time in NY and truly enjoyed the school, education, teachers and other students. I even had the pleasure of working on a short film in NYC. When my time at MUD ended I received a job offer in Bradenton Florida and worked there for a few years while I saved money to move here, to Atlanta to really pursue my dreams of working on film and tv. Since I’ve been here I’ve worked on a few projects with some amazing directors, crew and cast.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been mostly smooth, if not a little slow moving. The first job I had out of makeup school was a great opportunity, though not in the field I really wanted to be in. I made some friends and connections, and knew that I needed to move to really get into film and tv. I finally had the funds and time to make the move here to Atlanta. Just before I moved here I got an offer to do hair and makeup for a short film that was shooting right after my move in date and that amazing opportunity lead to more offers and even more connections. My career is moving, and growing, but it takes time to build connections and rapport. I’m so grateful for everyone that has been a part of this journey so far and I’m looking forward to meeting and working with many others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a professionally trained Makeup Artist and I have a background in cosmetology. As for the makeup, I really enjoy doing special effects, blood, gore, creatures and caricatures, prosthetics. I also loved sculpting and creating prosthetics during my time at MUD and plan to make some of my own molds and prosthetics in my down time.

I’m most proud of the dedication I’ve had to make it here. I had some life obstacles happen that pushed my move here back, but I took that as a sign that I wasn’t supposed to be here yet. Now that I am, I’m ready to make the most of my time in Atlanta!

I think the fact that I decided to move across the country to go back to school in my thirties to make this career come to life is something that sets me apart. I have so much life experience that I can bring to the table along with my education in makeup and hair. I have also had many jobs before this and I think I can bring a bit of everything and anything a client is looking for to the set.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
As far as networking goes, I’m actually kind of bad at it, but I do what I can with the time and resources I have. I work full time as well as doing makeup so I have a bit of a hard time making it to in person networking events, that is something I’m actively working on. I also take any opportunity to work with other creatives and learn anything I can from them. There’s so much we can gain from our peers and I really enjoy taking the time to absorb anything I can from those around me.

I do have social media, Facebook, Instagram etc, and I make sure I follow local groups, creatives, production companies as well as anyone I have worked with previously in all departments. I try to stay active in those groups and pages and keep in touch with those I’ve worked with before and try to be available for any offers that come my way. If I see a project I have interest in working on I reach out. I’ll send over a link to my portfolio and a resume with a bit about myself.
