Meet Mark Peterson | Ziscuit

We are thrilled to be connecting with Mark Peterson again. Mark is the Founder & CEO of Ziscuit and is also a content partner. Content partners help Voyage in so many ways from spreading the word about the work that we do, sponsoring our mission and collaborating with us on content like this.

Mark is a serial entrepreneur, author, and podcast host with twenty-plus years of senior executive corporate experience. Mark Co-founded and served as CEO of PrideRock Holdings, a biometric authentications startup from 2000 to 2012. Peterson sold PrideRock to a Fortune 500 Company in 2013. Mark has a BA and MBA from Dartmouth College. Check out our conversation with Mark below.

How did your biometric authentications startup (PrideRock Holdings) prepare you to launch an online grocery marketplace?
PrideRock Holdings solved the paper fingerprint card problem (high reject rate and slow turnaround) by creating a Gig-based network powered by Mail Parcel Centers (MPCs) and connected by a cloud-based, device-agnostic digital fingerprint application. Customers could go to one of six hundred fingerprint MPCs and have digital fingerprints captured and submitted for a background check. The background check information returned in seconds instead of in weeks or months. Our clients loved the turnaround time, but they appreciated the insight into the workflow more. Clients knew when, where, and how many fingerprints were captured instantly – information they never had access to. The key to solving the fingerprint problem was data transparency. This value point is what Ziscuit is built on.

Imagine driving a car without the gauges on the dashboard. Ziscuit is the cost-conscious shoppers’ grocery dashboard. Ziscuit aims to provide shoppers instant clarity on grocery prices while eliminating the effort and time to achieve significant savings.

What problem are you solving with Ziscuit?
37M Americans struggle to put food on the table because of high grocery prices. These shoppers invest 96 hours annually seeking deals and clipping coupons. Ziscuit’s reverse auction platform saves shoppers time and money by enabling retailers to bid to fulfill their shopping lists.

What do you understand about your business that other companies in it just don’t get?
My competitors are building food delivery infrastructure and coupon management platforms for service-oriented E-grocery customer segments when the majority (70%) of young grocery shoppers are cost-conscious. Ziscuit will target these cost-conscious shoppers and give them tools to maximize their savings beyond simple coupons. As the pandemic continues to impact food supply chains, savings and inventory management will be the winning functionality.

What will the world look when Ziscuit is a billion-dollar company?
When Ziscuit becomes a billion-dollar company more Americans will be able to buy enough food to sustain their families because they will have direct access to food producers. Food banks will better meet the nutritional need of their communities. Grocery retailers will spend less on storefronts and invest more in better quality food and services (delivery and refrigerated lockers).

How can everyday grocery shoppers support Ziscuit’s launch?
Ziscuit will launch in Atlanta, Georgia, and Birmingham, Alabama, at the end of Q2, 2021. Everyday shoppers can support Ziscuit by registering at our website to use the service (https://www.ziscuit.shop). Please register even if you are not in these markets. We are coming to your town soon! Shoppers can also donate directly to Ziscuit; every dollar brings us one step closer to helping those 37M Americans afford enough food to sustain their families (https://fundly.com/ziscuit-you-save-when-grocery-stores-bid/dash).

It was so great to reconnect. One last question – how can our readers connect with you, learn more or support you?
