Meet Matt Reeves

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Reeves.

Hi Matt, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
So, I grew up Polish American, as did Basia Piechoczek. That put us in a weird boat, to American kids we were the foreign kids, to Europeans, we are the Americans. That doesn’t seem necessarily important information but when you consider what Brave Wojtek is as a concept, it fits us very well. We are sort of misfit by design and don’t really feel pressured by food culture or the city culture to be anything we are not. Essentially, Atlanta ends up being a really great home for our stuff, which as the city continues to grow, more and more people are moving in with new cultures, and anti-culture alike. As it so happens, there is a significant number of Polish, Eastern European Americans, and Midwesterners who grew up with our food too. I think Brave Wojtek is weird enough, funny enough, and sincere enough to be the Atlanta ambassadors of our shared cuisine.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Hell no. We’ve been misled by opportunists before who have tried to ride our wave, so to speak, who have taken advantage of our success, such as our residency at Full Commission that ended prematurely due to bad business practices by the management company involved, not by the owner of Full Commission, I should specify, but the people he trusted to run his spot. And by the grace of the people of Atlanta, we usually get by. We are super grateful for our fans and community and neighbors who see the authenticity in our program. You guys rule.

To answer your question, finally, our struggles have been in business relations, finding a home for our concept has been like being a fish in shark-infested water, and we are just trying to find the right ones who believe in what we are offering and to support us.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Yeah, so we make and sell Polish and Eastern European food in Atlanta. We are a pop-up, and although we do support the pop-up community of Atlanta, Brave Wojtek is really its own thing, we somehow have penetrated both foodies, artists and creatives, hardcore shows, formal engagements, and more to become an essential must-know business on the street level, I can’t really explain why we’ve been so successful, but we owe it to the city of Atlanta for adopting us full force. We are proud to be part of this city.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Email us at bravewojtek@gmail.com, reach out, we are so open to your events and getting invested in our city any way you guys want us too. (if scheduling allows) follow us @bravewojtek most of our information and ongoing can be found there including occasional online sales for pick-ups. Some hi-lights next month, we will be at Mystic Market’s Lunar Disco 4/22 and at the Mutt Gala in midtown on 4/30 which has been described to me as the Met Gala for Dogs. Very exciting stuff.
