Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Woods, Alexus McCullum, Brittany Banks, and Chanel James.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We all have been friends collectively for almost a decade or so. Chanel really brought us all together. The whole goal behind the podcast was to bring friends together and originally talk about relationships, investing, etc. However, when Chanel mentioned it to us, it was more so she wanted to start a podcast with her friends. After brainstorming, we collectively came up with the name memoirs of millennial women. We decided that we would take stories from current events and our lives to bring light on relationships, business, sex, and kinda everything in between. We set out to record our first episode and the first blooper rounds were quite hilarious but not the vibe we were going for, and we had to get the hang of turning our girl talk conversations into something of value. Eventually, we got it down, and from there, we have just pushed to constantly build from that. We all have similar but different backgrounds and stories, and we think it’s pretty cool how we bring our own points of views, and they have become relatable to so many. Our only goal now is to continue to reach a broader audience to keep ourselves authentic and fun to listen to.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When we initially started perfecting our sound was something we struggled with. We had to learn about different mics and mixers. We don’t believe in just putting content out just to put it out, so there were definitely times where we had sessions and if the sound quality wasn’t up to our standards, we just didn’t release the episode. We’ve definitely gotten that figured out now. Also, We all have so many amazing things outside of our podcast going on so sometimes scheduling can get in the way. That’s why it’s so important that we have monthly meetings so we can plan ahead.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years we all hope to have established a much larger and consistent following. We hope to make a name for ourselves in the podcasting world that stands out and brings not only entertainment but value through our content to Millennials across the globe! We plan to have a lot more guests on our show in the future, provide merch for our listeners, and even explore potentially expanding our brand to other media outlets. We are truly excited about the future and potential for MOMW. As far as trends go, social media is always changing and evolving. I think a big change for podcasters will be clubhouse. It’s a new way to connect and communicate with our audience and build a new community. It’s like having a live show but virtual.
