Meet Michelle Cox of ConstructionBuilds.com

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Cox.

Michelle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started in the financial service industry in 1995 while attending Kennesaw State University. I worked through college and eventually became a young mother. I stayed in this industry for 13 years, learning and realizing this was a pathway to my next chapter professionally.

I had various roles in this corporate environment. I learned quite a bit over the years and loved the colleagues and clients I was blessed to meet. However, the corporate world was not conducive to having a special needs child.

After 13 years, I decided to leave the corporate structure. I had hard decisions to make how to take care of my family and these decisions led me to meet 2 partners in construction that needed a third partner with financial and office experience to bring the company full circle. This company we formed in 2008, still doing well today, is HCH Construction.

During my ownership and tenure with HCH Construction, there were many speed bumps and roadblocks along the way. It has been said that necessity is the mother of invention. During some of the most frustrating times, I developed a vision of how to make the construction world flow easier for all general contractors, material suppliers, subcontractors, equipment rental, specialties, insurance providers, attorney’s, architects, job bidding, etc. I thought ‘how can I get this all in one place instead of constantly googling multiple sites to find what I need’.

The answer: create it.

While I had the vision in 2010, after one of the worst economies crashes in our time, finding the resources/capital to bring this vision to fruition was yet another obstacle. I realized during this learning experience, I was a business operator rather than a true business owner. All of my energy was trying to keep my construction company moving forward and I didn’t take the proper time to work on the business while working in the business.

This frustration led to research. I started researching, listening to brilliant business minds, attending seminars, reading, improving my mindset, financial structure and resourcefulness.

Finally, the vision came to fruition in 2014. I started writing down all I wanted to see in one place. I made pages and pages of notes. This process took over a year of evaluation. In 2015, I contacted multiple web engineers for a quote to compose this website, my vision www.constructionbuilds.com. Once I selected the development company, developing the website took another good amount of time. I didn’t realize this process would be so lengthy as it seems so many sites are up and going very quickly. However, this was a project of great magnitude.

By the end of 2017, the website was complete and live with a few tweaks to be changed in early 2018. Now I am finally proud to bring forth a website I feel will revolutionize the construction industry and grow with our ever-changing digital world.

ConstructionBuilds.com offers All things construction.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. Some of the struggles along the way were clients paying invoices in a timely manner, subcontractors completing quality work and on time.

Finding quality subcontractors both in and out of state. The learning process of having adequate insurance, a strong supportive staff, the continuous struggle all parents face with work/quality time division.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with ConsctructionBuilds.com – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
ConstructionBuilds.com is a website where one can find all things construction. The goal of this site is to include all construction items in one place.

General contractors, subcontractors, specialties such as storefronts and lighting (and many more), green and sustainable building materials, HVAC, plumbing, electricians, heavy equipment, equipment rental, portable toilets, transportation, landscape and the list goes on. The construction industry is what I specialize in, post-financial service industry.

What sets this apart is there are several websites with pieces of these categories. There are no websites that contain all of them.

I am most proud of the mistakes made along the way that made me want to be better for my company and personally.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans are for continuous growth. If we are not growing, we are dying. My dream is to advertise in the super bowl. I do not know at this stage if I will accomplish this, however, I will keep dreaming and marketing.
