Meet Mikyla Baker of Madonna Minks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikyla Baker.

Hi Mikyla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been very much into beauty since I was a little girl. Makeup, nails, and lashes have always had me in a chokehold. One day I started getting my own lashes down and was obsessed right off the back. After I took an interest, I took a class to become certified and now we’re here.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Lashing definitely has not been a smooth road. Before lashing, I have always been a very nonchalant, not-so-expressive person. However, that had to change. You’re dealing with allllll different types of females so I definitely had to learn good customer service and communication skills. How to communicate effectively. How to respond to negative comments. How to keep people in check when it comes to my business but yet still remaining professional.

We’ve been impressed with Madonna Minks, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business has been my baby for the past 2 and a half years. I specialize in not only lashing but making women feel beautiful and better than they did before laying on the table. I also specialize in being my girls’ lash tech and therapist all in one (lol). I’m mainly known for good retention and how long my lashes last on my clients and I believe that is what also sets me apart from others. I hear girls complaining all the time how they spent so much money on lashes because keep in mind that getting lash extensions is a luxury service, and how they lashes didn’t last. While most girls go for a fill every 2 weeks, most of mine can come every 3-a months.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I can honestly say that Covid didn’t really affect my business due to the fact that I didn’t start it until we were almost a year into COVID. However, when watching other businesses I did learn to always make sure that there is money put to the side. You never know what’s going to happen and when it’s going to happen.
