Today we’d like to introduce you to Mona Harry.
Hi Mona, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I developed a joy for writing in the seventh grade. My cousin Niece was the beginning of my inspiration. We spent many days after school writing short stories. As the years progressed, Niece and I didn’t write together anymore but we continued to share our love for writing. After experiencing many heartbreaks and disappointments, my escape and comfort came through writing poetry. In 1999, God placed a desire in me to write a book of poems to encourage, inspire and teach His word. He gave me the title Rhythms for the Soul. And here I am, a newly published author!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
This has not been a smooth road. There were times when I wrote 2-3 poems per week and then there were times I went 2-3 years without so much as one word on paper. Everything I write is birth from my experiences and hearing from God and if I didn’t hear anything, I wasn’t able to write anything.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, I am a manager for a customer service call center. I am known for being an encourager and supporter. I believe in giving what I need. I am most proud of my family and my accomplishment of becoming a published author, Rhythms for the Soul. I believe my style of writing has set me apart from other authors. I take bible-based scriptures, transform them into poetry and teach readers the word of God. It’s done in such a way that it pricks the heart and leaves readers wanting more knowledge which in turn leads them to the Holy Bible.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I was always the kind of person who played it safe. The biggest risk I took was in 1995 when I moved to Charlotte, NC. It was a risk but it all worked out for the good and glory of God.
