Today we’d like to introduce you to Oladele Bolden.
Hi Oladele, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Oladelé Bolden, and I am a Human Performance Coach and founder of: Magis Athletic Training. I founded Magis in 2017 after recovering from 3 knee surgeries for a torn ACL and Meniscus. During my recovery from surgery, I was very inactive due to being in a full brace from my right ankle up to my hip for six months. During which time, I struggled with depression, self-esteem, confidence and social anxiety as a result of gaining 90lbs during my recovery.
As a former athlete (diving and Track) it was very challenging to look in the mirror at whom I had become. This all came to a head in 2015 after posting a picture of myself on social media a childhood friend commented , “whoa, what happened to you, what happened to your six-pack?” So I made a decision to take the weight off and searched all over the internet and YouTube on ways I could take the weight off. But there was something missing, accountability! So I posted on social media my goals and every week, I posted pictures of my weigh-in and workouts. I was able to lose 90lbs in ten months!
This led to my peers asking if I could assist them in their fitness journey. So I decided to become a certified personal trainer and currently hold a NASM CPT certification along with several other certifications and currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Sports Science and Biomechanics. I have had the opportunity to assist in training some local sports teams here in Atlanta and really look forward to opening up our first stand-alone training facility in the near future.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are many challenges in building out a stand-alone training facility and as an African American, I said the number one challenge is the lack of access to capital and traditional lending.
We’ve been impressed with Magis Athletic Training, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We specialize in Evidence based human sports performance training. We follow the science of training with our athletes and clients. We don’t follow the trends or what may be popular on the internet and social media. Just because a client can “feel the burn” or is exhausted at the end of a training session, doesn’t mean it was a good training session. Just because a client is “ripped” doesn’t mean that muscle mass will transfer to enhanced performance in their respective sport. Our approach is the formula 3M+3P= Success. We have the 3M’s, It must be Manageable, it must be Measurable, it must be Motivational. Then we add in the 3P’s, it must be Practical, it must be Personal, it must be Proactive. When you add all those elements in a clients training then you’ll have a client that is Successful both on and off the field. At Magis Athletic Training we ask ourselves four questions on which the cornerstone everything is built:
1) Why are you doing what you’re doing?
2) How are you actually going to do it?
3) What specifically are you going to do?
4) When are you going to do it?

Who else deserves credit in your story?
There are so many people I would like to thank, first my lovely wife Erica, the number one strength and conditioning staff in division one football at Georgia State; Coach John Sisk has forever changed my life and career as both a friend and mentor, Coach Alex Derenthal, Coach Gary Wilkins, Coach Curtis Turner, Coach Cory Magwood, Larren Epps and Michael Greene. I’ve learned so much from each and every one of these individuals who have to take the time to pure into me both professionally and personally.
