Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronnie McLaughlin Jr.
Hi Ronnie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started when I was six years old. My grandma became ill so I moved in her house to assist her. She was a Sou chef for many years at a popular Detroit restaurant so I became her apprentice in our home. Years later, I enrolled in school for professional training but I was so well versed by then that my instructors had me up teaching.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Thanks to my mom’s mom and my stepdad’s mom, both ironically from Louisiana and tremendous cooks, the lessons they taught me and the struggles they endured I’ve learned to walk in confidence and not be intimidated by other Chefs. What God has given me is uniquely my own and could never be duplicated. I moved to Los Angeles in 2005 and I learned very valuable lessons regarding my worth as a Chef and not compromising my brand to fit someone else’s budget.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Being personable is extremely important. As a caterer, I go into client’s home which requires me to have a genuine personality that’s friendly, inviting and warm.
