Meet Ruby of Gwinnett County /Metro Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruby.

Hi Ruby, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, my name is Ruby Hernandez, and I’ve been working in the beauty industry in Atlanta for over 14 years. My journey started in high school, where doing makeup for friends quickly turned into a true passion. I loved the creativity and the confidence boost it gave people, and I knew early on that I wanted to build a career in the beauty industry .

After graduating, I set a goal to work at MAC Cosmetics, and achieving that at a young age was a defining moment for me. My time there gave me strong training, product knowledge, and real client experience. It also opened the door to freelancing, where I built relationships, grew my network, and developed a loyal client base. I have met and worked alongside some of the best amazing people in TV/Film & Music Industry.

While working as an artist, I always dreamed of creating my own makeup line. I’ve always been drawn to business and creativity, and I knew I wanted to build something of my own. In 2020, I decided to take the leap and launch my brand, Rumière. I started with lashes and gradually expanded into lip glosses and lipsticks, with plans to continue growing the product line.

Building the brand has been a learning experience and a labor of love from choosing the name of my brand that has a significant meaning. The meaning of Rumière comes from the french word “Lumière” which means light. I have a strong faith in God and I wanted a name that had a purpose and that resonated his light and love to us all. I’m proud of how far it has come, and my goal is to keep creating beauty products that help people feel beautiful and confident.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes, there have definitely been obstacles along the way. Like many small business owners, one of the biggest challenges especially in the cosmetic industry has been funding and managing growth while maintaining product quality. When I launched my brand it was during the pandemic, which created unexpected hurdles like increased shipping costs, supply delays, and manufacturing issues. At times I received damaged inventory and had to replace products at my own expense, which was difficult but also part of the learning process.

Those experiences taught me how to be more hands-on, more selective with manufacturers , and more strategic with planning and budgeting. Building a brand from the ground up means wearing many hats, and I’ve learned how to adapt quickly and keep moving forward.

My current focus is continuing to grow sustainably so I can expand my product line and serve my customers even better. Every challenge so far has strengthened my knowledge and commitment to the business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a makeup artist and creative based in Atlanta, I specialize in makeup that enhances natural features while still delivering a polished, camera-ready finish. My work ranges from soft glam to red carpet looks, always customized to the individual.

In addition to client and event makeup, I have professional experience in television and film environments, which has been a major part of my growth as an artist. I’ve had the opportunity to work with news anchors at Telemundo early on in my career and gained strong experience with broadcast and high-definition makeup. Working on set taught me the importance of set etiquette, time management, sanitation standards, and adjusting quickly under production schedules. I truly enjoy set life and the collaborative energy that comes with it.

What sets me apart is my versatility and technical background. I’m comfortable creating anything from natural, soft glam to full red-carpet and studio-ready looks, with a strong understanding of how makeup translates on camera and under professional lighting. Being a brand owner gives me an added layer of knowledge about product performance, texture, trending looks and makeup styles.

No matter the setting on set, in studio, or with private clients my goal is always the same: to deliver work that looks beautiful in person and flawless on camera, while making each client feel comfortable and confident.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m always open to collaborating and working with a wide range of clients and creative teams. Based in Atlanta, I provide makeup services across many areas, including bridal, glam, television, film, commercials, corporate shoots, short films, and editorial projects. I’m comfortable adapting my artistry to different environments and production needs, from private clients to full on-set work.

I welcome partnerships with photographers, producers, agencies, and brands who value professionalism, creativity, and high-performance, camera-ready results. I’m also very interested in expanding into larger brand collaborations and having my work published in magazines and major campaigns that is one of my next big goals as an artist and brand owner.
