Meet Sejoya Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Plus Model Sejoya Also known as Thee Curvy Hustler

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a plus-size model from Vallejo, California and have been modeling and acting for 12 years plus now. I am the third oldest of 10 and has always been the only tall and curvy one out of my siblings. I remember doing my first print shoot at 13 and loved modeling ever since. By the time I was able to book work for myself there were more runway modeling opportunities available so I started with that. As time went on, I got signed to a Marla Dell, a reputable agency down in San Francisco and was signed with them for several years. I am experienced in runway, fit, print, e-commerce, editorial, lifestyle and lingerie modeling. I did a ton of fit modeling with them. Two of my major ongoing bookings were with Old Navy and Levi’s Jeans. I then relocated to Atlanta to further my career. Once there, I worked with The Bailey Agency and booked gigs with Wal-mart, Essence Festival and Ashley Stewart to name a few. Outside of the agency, I booked work on TvOne’s Fatal Attraction and extra work on The Rickey Smiley Show.

I love all things fashion and modeling so in 2013, I started my own clothing brand called Curvy Hustler. It’s a line that represents the everyday curvy woman on the go. It started with tees, sets, sweatsuits, and leggings and now intimates and sleepwear has been added. With the creation of my brand, I continued to model and travel. Going back and forth between California and Georgia, I ended my previous contract and signed with two other agencies in Los Angeles. Being the go getter I am, even while being signed, I would still find and book my own work. I ended up booking a worldwide in-store campaign with True Religion. A product placement shoot with Levi’s Jeans. I am one of the top plus-size e-commerce models, and I was the plus-size live model for Nick Cannon’s Wild’n Out Tour in Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, and Oakland. And my resume continues to grow!

I am where I am today because I always kept God first and I never stopped. I always walked by faith and not sight! I do right by others and remain humble. And I always of course put in the work.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. There were struggles with my weight as a plus-size woman and to add to that, I got into modeling when plus-size modeling was just starting to pick up. In the modeling world, in the beginning, I was asked to lose weight so that I could not be as curvy. My issue was my hips and butt were bigger then my chest so my measurements were always unique. They wanted me to be more straight. So at times, I would get you’re not big enough or my hips were too big.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a plus-size model and actress but I specialize in modeling. But aside from being a model, I am a serial entrepreneur. My modeling is what I’m known for. I am most proud of several accomplishments honestly but to name a few, I would say having my two daughters and the name that I have built for my brands and businesses. What sets me apart from others is my work ethic. I am consistent, professional, teachable, respectful, and hungry. I have a true passion for what I do so I’m always grinding.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
God first and foremost deserves credit. I have cried and prayed to him many times and he has always shown me what I needed to see and has opened many doors. My husband Jarell. He has been with me from day 1! And I mean that literally. He would sit in the car at my castings, attend every photoshoot, take my photos and videos for content and so much more. My daughter Sa Layah. She’s only ten but her love and kind words keep me going. Me being her inspiration is everything to me. And of course, my followers and supporters. I have the coolest supporters. And I appreciate them all!
