Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvia Crowe.
Hi Sylvia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
SunWoman Farms is a SWC Farms Company that was established in 1982. This farm has expanded operations from livestock to include fresh fruits and vegetables. SWC Farms is a Georgia Grown Producer. SunWoman Farms was started when we decided that we wanted to share our tastiest produce with others. SunWoman Farms picks to order so you have the freshest possible produce.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When starting this new venture, we found that growing inside verse outside was completely different. Meaning when using soilless media not the ground dirt things are not the same. You have to feed nutrients, watering is different, and growth is fast. Once that was figured out then we found we didn’t have a place to sell all of our goodness. Gave lots away and threw so much produce away it would make you cry. Found out when you find someone else doing the same as you, no one wants to help you sell your product. I never want to take anyone’s business but getting a little help to sort this out would have helped. No one offers classes on any of this for the little gal.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Owner, seeder, planter, weeder, harvester, and seller. You have to know every step in order to show employees how to do these steps the way you want it done.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
We have been extremely fortunate to have local communities take us in their markets to sell our products, We started out with 1 farmers market, now we are selling at 6 markets, with restaurants, country stores, and grocery stores taking our products at different times of the year.
