Today, we’d like to introduce you to Tia P. Tia was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Marty Arnold.
Hi Tia, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’m an Inglewood, CA native. I was born an only child to two amazingly loving, talented, and supportive parents – who also had their time in the spotlight in the gospel music. Although I was brought up in the church, I was exposed to all genres of music, especially the oldies everybody and their momma is sampling these days. Unforcedly following in my dad’s footsteps, my first love was the drums. This developed into wanting and learning how to produce music. My songwriting developed around the same time, but was influenced by a fondness for writing poetry earlier. A side from being a singer, my mom was/ is a school teacher – so language and the art of communication has always been important to me, both in and out of music. My first song I’d written and performed was a gospel song for my church’s kid’s choir called “Holy Ghost Party”. At the time, my church owned The Forum, and that was when I got bit by the performance bug. I was more excited than nervous, and it’s that exact same feeling I get when I perform today. All of my music skills beefed up tremendously during my 4 years in DC at Howard University as a Psychology major. Just being in a different environment, with different people, different music, different energy – how could I not get better? After graduation I got into acting and have booked several national commercials from Hyundai and Macy’s, to Pepsi and Sprite. Over the years, my management team, 6x Entertainment, and I have released countless singles, several EP’s, been featured on over 100 songs, numerous films, TV, and commercial placements, and countless collaborations with musical legends to up and coming artists.
Please talk to us about your creative work and career. What should we know?
I started out calling myself a “rapper, but that didn’t feel all encompassing, so then it became “rapper/drummer”. Then “rapper- singer/ songwriter – drummer” THEN to “Rapper/ musician”. Nowadays, I stick to titles like “creative”, “entertainer”, and “artist”. There’s no restriction in those titles. They also encompass the work I do as a SAG actor in TV, film, and commercials – most notably seen as Kim Nitty on the CW’s “All American”. Getting back to the music – it’s my passion. I often say music is very selfish in creation, but so selfless after it’s created – music is a gift to be given. Because most of my songs speak on life, love, truth, and positivity and that’s pretty much who I am. I wanna have fun; I wanna have a good time; but I also know the influence, power and responsibility that being a creative holds, so I also want to empower the kids and speak truth. Most times I can do that via music, but half the time it’s just motivating and checking in with my supporters throughout the day on social media. Even if I didn’t do music, I’d still be a people person. All my released music is available on all music streaming/ downloading platforms – including the independent radio chart topping “Come Together” feat. B.Slade, and “Feel Good” by the incomparable Jacky Clark Chisholm (of the Legendary Clark Sisters”) featuring MARY J and myself!! In the works is a possible placement for one of hip-hop’s hottest female rappers right now. *prayers up and fingers crossed lol*
Also be on the commercial lookout! I have a Hyundai Tuscan commercial running, as well as a “Welcome to Vegas” commercial with my music featured in the background (SHOUT OUT Teddy Roxpin and the crew on the track!).
As you know, we’re big fans of Marty Arnold and 6x Entertainment we know you’ve worked with them quite a bit as well. We’d love to hear about your experience working with Marty Arnold.
6x is the only management team I’ve ever been with. Over the years I’ve heard management horror stories about money being mismanaged, opportunities being missed, managers who honestly don’t know the music or the business – I’ve heard it all. Trust, honesty, and a daily grind, have been consistent factors when it comes to the integrity and reputation of 6x Entertainment. As the flagship artist, the same are consistent factors when it comes to me as well. There is a standard we try to uphold, and that does cause us to butt heads sometimes, but what great team who wants to be the best doesn’t? We learn from our downfalls, try to stay ahead of the curve, and celebrate (not get too comfortable) in our successes. With 6x I’ve had a successful career in music and film, that continues to grow. While being a client of 6x, I’ve also procured a relationship with Fox Entertainment Music, resulting a severe continues placements in up and coming Fox shows, promos, and series. Our most recent project is a song I wrote titled “I Am a Man”. Originally meant to be the title track for a 2019 film about the 1968 Memphis Sanitation strike, this song is much more necessary in 2021. So, we didn’t particularly mind the movie never got made at the time – just wasn’t the right time. Now, several mixes, a video shoot later, a live band recording, and with B. Slade’s immaculate and heartfelt lead vocals bringing every word to life, “I Am A Man” will be the most important and life changing piece I’ve done in my career to date. Teamwork really does make the dream work.
