Meet Timothy Barker Jr of Roll The Dice LLC in East Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Barker Jr.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well, I’m born and raised from Atlanta, GA. I got started in Film since I was 16 when I used to edit the morning announcements. I went to Full Sail University and finished in 2008. I started my Production company Roll The Dice LLC with one of my best friends, John Holcomb, in 2010, and I just been working my ass off ever since then, doing shitty behind the scenes, music videos, and commercials to make money. But finally in 2016 after I made my first Documentary, I told myself that I will only focus on Films, and music video IF I truly wanted to do them. And I have been doing that ever since.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Hell no it hasn’t. It’s been shitty. For a time, I was completely unhappy doing what I was doing. See, I’m truly a film guy. I love the hold process of making a film, from the pre-production where you have to write a script, then finalize it. Then, finding your actors, and finding the locations, then getting the gear and making the shooting schedule and etc, to the actual production and being on set every day. Being in the foxhole with your actors and crew and of making this piece of art. And even post-production when you sit on your ass for hours looking at the same clip over and over just to make sure it’s right. I love all that shit. I just love telling stories. But when you try to do that, especially will a lot of these artists, they don’t want that. They want some girl shaking her ass in front of a car and them rapping and I ain’t trying to do that. But I did. And it sucked. So, when I stopped, it was extremely hard, cause I wasn’t getting any gigs anymore and I struggling. BAD!! And I when through a real rough point. Yeah, that was hard.

Please tell us about Roll The Dice LLC.
Well, now, I have two businesses, lol. The first one is called Roll The Dice LLC and it’s a Production Company. I started it with one of my Best Friend, John Holcomb, in Orlando. And we specialize, in creating content. Rather that’s Film, Docs, Tv-Shows, and/or Photography, we do it all. I’m based in Atlanta, and he is based in Los Angeles.

My other company is called Daily Freshness and it was started by another one of my closest friend, Stewart Spraggins (I hope to God I spelled his last name right. Lol.), and I partner with him about three years ago. And Daily Freshness specializes in Events and Concerts. For about six years, we threw concerts at the SXSW Festival Officially.

What I’m most proud of about both of these companies, is that we started them from nothing. One day, they were an idea and dream in our heads and then tons of hard work later, everything is starting to come together.

What sets us apart is that we truly believe in what we are doing and that we have a passion for it.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is being at my great grandmother house on a Sunday night if my mother was late picking us up. See my grandmother had a bar in the back of her house cause she ran a speakeasy cause back in the day the city of Atlanta didn’t allow the sale of alcohol on Sundays. So, when we used to spend the night over her house, we would stock her refrigerator in the afternoon full of Bluebird Juices, and chips and other stuff behind the bar. Then, when it hit 7:30, we would have to leave the back in of the house to the front, because she was opening up. But we would find a way to sneak down to the back door and just watch people bar and get drunk all night. But the best part was, the jukebox that she had, that used to play all of the old school songs. My favorite is Curtis Mayfield “Superfly.”
