Hi Tippy/ Kingz Palace, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My name is Tippy. I’m the President of Kingz Palace Men’s Spa – Grooming & Wellness. I first started off as A MAN-icurist, over the years I have mastered my craft and now My Title is Men’s Grooming Specialist. I have also almost completed my medical course so I will be a medical Nail Technician as well by August 2021. My vision was inspired by my male Clientele who frequently stated they felt “funny” sitting in nail salons and Feminine spas. There wasn’t and still isn’t many full service personal grooming establishments that cater to Men only. So I wanted to provide a more masculine space where Men felt comfortable getting their routine grooming services. It’s been a long Journey I worked tirelessly, not only to create an upscale brand, but also to ensure the guest experience was embedded with the culture of my vision
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I decided to open the first Kingz Palace in 2008 in (Milwaukee, WI) I didn’t receive a loan or any financial assistance. After graduating and receiving my MAN- icuring license I used what I had saved coming in from part time grooming services, bartending and other management positions. It was enough to secure a lease but not enough for marketing or any advanced promotions. So In the beginning marketing and financial stability played a big role in the challenges the company faced, Along with lack of knowledge and acceptance of the Men’s grooming industry within the community 10 years ago. In 2012 I had to step away from Kingz palace to have my younger children because I didn’t have adequate staff to run and maintain the business. Fast forward to 2017, my kiddos were a little older and Kingz Palace was still my dream. Equipped with more knowledge on the Men’s grooming industry, a better economy, mentors and a broader vision, I was ready to hit the ground running. hired an amazing team & went on to do pop-ups from Milwaukee, Chicago, Miami and Atlanta building awareness of my brand and launching The Kingz Collection, product line for men. I finally decided to open another brick and mortar this time in another city brand new to me. I sold my daycare and headed to Atlanta. A lease was secured (July 2019), but in the wrong area and we all know, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION, lol… It will make or break you!! So trying to develop a community following in Atlanta pushing through with my savings and sales from my new product line (the Kingz Collection), and support from a dedicated team we started to gain more followers and clients and things started to pick up. In March 2020 we were able to relocate to a better location (Sandy Springs) neighboring master barbers. Things were really picking up knowledge of the company and our presence was starting to spread and we had a waiting list… AND THEN CORONA VIRUS HIT!!!! So sad we were forced to stop operating which left my business in Jeopardy, rent payment, utilities, staffing etc… *sad face*. But…. We fought through the pandemic coming through strong!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Well, something that would be surprising to most would be that although I’m a woman & very dominant in the business world I am “Pro-Man” if I could say.. lol.. I’m an old soul with old beliefs. I believe Men are head of house as it says in the bible men are to lead and women are to follow. We should make sure our Kings are well taken care of .. Well maybe that’s not so surprising..?? Lol
Also I sit around men all day everyday. I hear them talk and express themselves so I know how they think, act and what they want and like. I’m called “The lioness amongst the lions” but IM STILL SINGLE!! Lol.. haaaaa!
“Go figure”, but I’m definitely enjoying this Journey the Lord has blessed me with!
