Meet Tisha Ayers of Cashmere Moon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tisha Ayers.

Hi Tisha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Pregnant with my son, my body was going through all kinds of crazy changes. One of those changes was extremely dry skin. Much like other pregnant women, I was concerned about stretch marks and knew that dry skin would not be good at keeping them away. Not to mention, dry skin is just irritating!

My amazing husband, Mike, started researching whipped Shea body butters after weeks of disappointment with regular lotions found in stores. I felt like those lotions just weren’t moisturizing my skin. Sure, it felt nice when I first applied it, but it felt like my skin was dry, ashy, and itching an hour later. We used a recipe we found online for the whipped Shea body butters and started adding in oils and extracts that we knew were good for the skin, like almond oil and calendula extract. It took some time but we finally perfected our own formula.

I loved how it felt on my skin, and it definitely kept me moisturized throughout the day. Proud of the butters, we started passing them out to family and friends who had the same complaints we did concerning in-store, watered-down lotions. Turns out, our friends and family loved it! They were returning for more and bringing their friends to try it. It was then we decided to start our business. We started out as Elements Bath and Body Care but have since changed our name to Cashmere Moon.

Our first product was unscented body butter, which is our undiluted whipped Shea butter formula. We now offer more products like our whipped body creams and body oils.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not be a smooth road but, you know what they say – “anything worth having is worth fighting for.” When we first started, we faced quite a few challenges with getting the funds to start the business, but through persistence and pure ambition, we were able to secure a small business loan to get us started.

We also had some costly mistakes with print shops used to make and print our labels. Not to mention the story behind the name change, but that’s for another day. Those are just a few. However, we have had some great experiences and helped quite a few people along the way, so the journey is more than worth it!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Cashmere Moon?
With nourished, healthy skin at the top of our priority list, we provide clean beauty bath and body products. We currently offer a variety of scents for our whipped body creams, a body oil, and Vitamin C whipped hand lotion. We take pride in our environment, so all our products are carefully packaged in environment-friendly containers.

If you take a look at our ingredients label, you will easily see how we are different from our competitors. We exclude the use of any fillers, dyes, or toxins. For instance, the second ingredient in our whipped body cream is Shea butter, not some random unknown, long-name chemical. Our products are made to nourish, that’s it.

For our brand, I’m most proud of the natural, clean, and distinguished feel. When people hear Cashmere Moon, they should think natural, clean, and nourishing.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as accomplishing goals. A current goal is to maintain our existing customer base, and we do this by maintaining communication through email, opening communication channels on social media to hear advice or comments, sending hand-written thank you’s with each order, and quickly responding to any customer service needs. Connecting with our customers is how we make our products better, and in turn, we as a company get better. When this goal is mastered, we are successful at this stage and ready to move to a greater goal and will strive to be successful at that stage. So on, and so forth.
