Meet Vanessa Reed of Virtuous Women Ministries

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Reed.

Vanessa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Vanessa Reed, and my journey into women’s ministry began in 2008 after teaching a Bible study on the Proverbs 31 Woman. At first, I believed no woman could possibly live up to such a description. But over the weeks, God gently showed me that the Proverbs 31 woman is not a picture of perfection, but she is a picture of balance, built on seven relationships that shape her life; her relationship with God, herself, her spouse, her children, her home, other women, and those in need.

This revelation became the foundation of Virtuous Women Ministries. Through speaking engagements, seminars, retreats, and coaching, I walk with women to help them nurture those relationships that are strong, and courageously address the ones that challenge them.

My own balance and relationships were tested when I faced a cancer diagnosis. The journey challenged every area of my life, except my relationship with God. My faith became my anchor in which I gained strength to persevere for myself, my family, my ministry to help others and the women I desired to serve. Through prayer and Scripture, I found the strength to fight.

As a coach, I teach women to create vision boards and the steps needed to accomplish their goals. For years, however, two goals remained on mine: lose weight and finish the book I started more than 15 years ago. During my cancer journey, God helped me accomplish them both. I lost over 100 pounds and published my book, Encountering Jesus: Discover Healing, Peace, and Purpose in His Presence.

Today, I stand boldly and gratefully as a walking, talking, breathing miracle. My life is proof that God restores, God strengthens, and God finishes what He starts. And it is never too late to complete the assignment He placed in your heart.
Don’t retreat! Lean In….

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, my life journey has not been an easy road. But through every season, God has held me close. I lost my father in an automobile accident when I was just eleven years old. I am the mother of five sons, two of whom are on the autism spectrum. In 2011, my husband faced a health scare. In the last five years, I have buried four of my six siblings. And in the midst of all of this, I faced a cancer diagnosis of my own.

Even with all these hardships, God has kept me, strengthened me, and carried me. My story is not one of ease—it is one of endurance, grace, and the unwavering faithfulness of God. I am reminded of the words of Job 13:15, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust Him.”
