Meet Wendell Johnson of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendell Johnson.

Hi Wendell, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised on the Virginia coast. Played music there all my life in several semi successful bands (I know…define success?)
We are a family of creatives, I’m a 20 year full time Voice Over Artist , my wife and daughter are film and television actors and voice over artists! So on the heels of my wife and daughter’s acting career, we moved to Atlanta in 2018.
Being from VA with little contacts in the Canton area, I had to reinvent myself musically. I’ve found great comfort in performing alone acoustically. Up until last year, it was clever cover music. Happy to say I’m writing again, and plan to release an ep before the end of the year.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
LMAO. Umm .. no. Let’s see…spent my 20-30s chasing a record deal. Got an indie deal, got released from the label. Spent that part of my life traveling the east coast and beyond in a van and trailer. Thankfully I found Voice acting along the way.
Got diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm the month we were set to move to GA. Had that surgery in 2019. Took a year to feel normal, and then spent the last several years figuring out who I was musically.

It’s very fulfilling creatively. It’s never the same job, and the industry is full of a great community of actors.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I’m an old geezer that was trying to become successful just as the internet was becoming a thing. The game is no longer the same. But I think this always applies.: Be Real. Be relentless.
