N’ova J shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
N’ova, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
Right now there’s no such thing as a “normal day” for me, and that’s the way I like it! My schedule is a wonderful mix of time in the studio creating new music, traveling the country with friends on tour, and constantly creating content. In between performing around the south and enjoying summer, I’m also helping brands bring their vision to life through event activations and dedicating time to supporting community initiatives.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m N’ova J, a Neo Soul artist straight from the “A.” My brand is about more than just music—it’s about healing through self-love and authenticity. I’ve always believed that music has the power to connect people on a deeper level, and my mission is to use my art to raise the vibrations of the collective and uplift my community with divine truth. What makes my work unique is this very intention; every song is crafted with the purpose of inspiring personal and communal growth. I’m currently working on my first official music video, which I’m incredibly excited to share with you all. It’s a visual extension of my story and a huge step in my journey as an artist.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
There’s no single moment, but rather a period of spiritual awakening and enlightenment that completely reshaped my worldview. It was during this time that I realized my gifts were not just for me; they were meant to be shared for a greater purpose. That realization has been the driving force behind everything I do, influencing my music and my mission to uplift others. It’s the moment my life’s purpose became clear.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Any fear at all! I’ve come to realize that God has not given us a spirit of fear, and if God is for me, who can possibly be against me? Stepping into that truth has allowed me to walk in my purpose with a boldness I call “Godfidence.” It’s a conviction that has taught me that the time to be fully and faithfully myself is right now.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
My answer is “yes and no.” I’m always completely authentic in my interactions—there’s no fake version of me. But I’ve learned that energy is sacred, and it’s a lesson I’ve earned through personal growth. As a former oversharer and people-pleaser, I’ve now become very intentional about who I spend my personal time with and what parts of my story I share publicly. I believe this selective approach allows me to protect my creative and spiritual energy, which in turn helps me give my best to the world.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope the story people tell about me is that I was unafraid to create my own path. I want to be remembered as someone who understood the value of traditional pursuits, like getting my MBA, but who also refused to be defined by them. I hope my life shows that it’s possible to honor conventional wisdom while carving out a career that is fully and creatively your own. The greatest legacy I can leave is the story of a life lived authentically and without compromise.
