Today we’d like to introduce you to Abraham Carrillo.
Hi Abraham, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Roman Supply Co. was born out of a season that forced us to slow down and reevaluate everything.
Like many people, 2020 became a turning point. It exposed what was life-giving and what wasn’t. It challenged us to reconsider our values, our work, and the things that once made us come alive.
For years, creativity had been sitting dormant.
As a kid, design, fashion, color, and self-expression came naturally. But somewhere along the way, those interests were pushed aside—buried beneath expectations, stereotypes, and the pressure to fit into a mold that never quite felt right.
Then one day, out of boredom and curiosity, a pair of pants changed everything.
Using vintage military pieces, thrifted garments, and whatever materials were available, we began cutting, sewing, mixing, and rebuilding clothing into something entirely new. What started as an attempt to bring a little whimsy into an ordinary day became something unexpected. Strangers stopped us. People wanted the pieces. One person literally bought the pants off our body in the middle of a mall.
That moment sparked an idea.
Roman Supply Co. was founded by a husband-and-wife team whose story began in Rome, Georgia. Combining a lifelong eye for design with generations of sewing craftsmanship passed down through family, we discovered something special at the intersection of imagination and skill.
Every piece begins with limitation. We gather existing garments, forgotten fabrics, and overlooked materials, then transform them into something completely new. No templates. No trends. No mass production.
Just imagination.
The result is clothing that feels both familiar and foreign. Domestic yet otherworldly. Pieces that seem like they belong to a story you’ve never heard before.
We don’t create clothing to blend in.
We create wearable art that invites people to embrace wonder, creativity, individuality, and play.
Most of our work is one-of-one because we believe some things are worth slowing down for. We hope these garments become more than items in a closet. We hope they become heirlooms. Pieces that outlive us. Pieces that carry stories. Pieces that are handed down and treasured.
Roman Supply Co. exists to remind people that wonder is still alive—and that what the world overlooks can become something extraordinary.
Nothing is truly wasted and that was echoed in those early days that tho I wasn’t do what I loved at the time, through time i found what i always loved and am now still doing it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Struggles were definitely the same every artisan goes through. We started to be tempted to make garments for the best “price” point or what can be fast, cheap and simple but to be honest that isn’t us. So we took the hard road. We make these garments and took time. Priced it as a place that valued the craft and our time and labor and care. Most of all we made things WE liked not what we the consumer may of wanted.
Killing the people pleaser in me was allowing myself to make for me and ordering God that what he put in me was good and correct.
That much like my life. No struggle, or set back or hurt was wasted from him. He knows every thread and he covered me with grace like a patch. He (Jesus) is making a mosaic from my shattered past & place.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At my core, I’m actually a youth pastor. Most of my life and work revolve around people, discipleship, spiritual formation, mentoring young people, and helping others follow Jesus. It’s deeply meaningful work, but it’s also emotionally, spiritually, and mentally demanding.
Roman Supply Co. exists in a different space of my life.
For me, creating is a form of rest. It’s a Sabbath-like practice. While ministry often involves carrying the stories, burdens, and needs of others, making something with my hands allows me to slow down, create, and enjoy the simple gift of craftsmanship. It’s where imagination, curiosity, and creativity come alive.
What began as a creative outlet eventually became a shared endeavor with my wife, combining my love for design and storytelling with her family’s generations of sewing and garment-making expertise.
At the heart of both our faith and our brand is a verse that has deeply shaped us:
“Aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you.” — 1 Thessalonians 4:11
That verse serves as a foundation for how we approach our work. In a world obsessed with speed, attention, and constant production, we want to create slowly, intentionally, and faithfully. We believe there is dignity in craftsmanship, beauty in working with your hands, and joy in creating something meaningful.
Roman Supply Co. is our way of living that out & transforming overlooked materials into 1/1 pieces that celebrate imagination, craftsmanship, and wonder.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Without question, my wife deserves enormous credit. Roman Supply Co. would not exist without her. While I tend to bring the creative vision, color, styling, and conceptual side of things, she brings generations of craftsmanship. Sewing, garment construction, and working with textiles are skills that have been passed down through her family through her mother and grandmother. Roman is truly the product of our two worlds coming together.
Another person who deserves significant credit is Tiago Magro.
We met Tiago first on social media and his art was everywhere! The mixed media he was doing reminded us of what we were doing with clothing. immediately recognized a kindred spirit. As a Brazilian-born artist whose work blends faith, creativity, storytelling, and transformation, he became an important voice in our creative journey. His philosophy that creativity is a form of spiritual stewardship deeply resonated with us, and his encouragement gave us permission to lean further into who we already were. (Tiago Magro)
As a youth pastor, I spent years wondering if there was tension between being a man of faith and being an artist. Tiago helped me see that those things don’t compete with one another. They belong together. Watching how he integrated his faith, imagination, and artistic calling helped me understand that creativity isn’t something separate from God’s work in our lives—it’s one of the ways we participate in it. His often-repeated idea that “God is the painter, I’m just the brush” left a lasting impression on me and shaped how I think about creating. (Tiago Magro)
More than anything, Tiago and his wife encouraged us to be unapologetically ourselves. They challenged us to think bigger, create more boldly, embrace originality, and trust that the most compelling work comes from authenticity rather than imitation.
Many people have supported Roman Supply Co. along the way, but Tiago stands out as someone who helped us see that faith, craftsmanship, imagination, and artistry were never meant to live in separate worlds.
