Today we’d like to introduce you to Aisha Adams.
Hi Aisha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Interview Answer
I was born in Albany, Georgia, raised in Birmingham, Alabama, and spent my college years and early adulthood in Atlanta. I was never a resident, always a visitor, but the city still left its mark. Albany gave me beginnings. Birmingham gave me grounding. Atlanta challenged me.
It where I began to understand what survival demanded, and what thriving could look like. That is why the city shows up in my memoir almost like a character of its own. In essays like Like Falicia, which reflects on the story of Falicia Blakely, a young Black woman from Atlanta whose life was cut short by trauma and bad choices, I wrestle with how easily our stories are misread or dismissed. In her, I could see the path I might have taken, and I claim my own scars as part of what made me.
Writing This Is What Made Me is my way of honoring it all—the pain, the grit, and the reclamation. The book is not about being polished. It is about telling the truth of what made me, and offering others a way to see their own truths with more clarity and courage.
And that same commitment shows up in my work as a consultant, trainer, and coach. I help people and organizations move from awareness to action, bridging the gap between storytelling and real change. The lessons in the book are not just personal—they are the very tools I use to guide transformation in business and community spaces.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been a smooth road. That is why I wrote This Is What Made Me. The memoir is rooted in the struggles so many of us carry — unhealed trauma, systemic barriers, and the pressure to keep moving even when we are exhausted.
The challenge has always been finding space for truth and joy in a world that prefers polished versions of our lives. Writing this book was my way of naming those realities with honesty and dignity, and showing that the scars are part of what makes us.
That same commitment shows up in my business. I create spaces where people and organizations can face hard truths, practice resilience, and imagine new ways forward. The lessons in my book are the same ones I use to spark transformation in real life.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Alongside being an author, I work as a consultant, trainer, and coach. I specialize in helping people and organizations strengthen culture so that both individuals and teams can thrive.
I am most proud of witnessing transformation in real time, whether it is a workplace moving from disconnection to collaboration or an individual finding the confidence to step into their full potential.
What sets me apart is that I bring my whole story into the room. My memoir, This Is What Made Me, reflects on the challenges, the grit, and the reclamation that shaped me. Those same lessons guide the way I support others through change with honesty, compassion, and practical tools that make a lasting difference.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next five to ten years, I believe there will be a deeper focus on culture and belonging. Organizations are beginning to understand that culture is not a slogan or a program, it is the daily experience of the people who work there. The future will favor environments that are supportive, connected, and sustainable rather than one-time initiatives.
I also see the line between personal and professional growth continuing to fade. People expect workplaces where they can show up fully and where leaders model the values they speak about.
What excites me most is how this connects to my own work. The themes I write about in This Is What Made Me—resilience, honesty, and reclamation—are the same qualities that help organizations and individuals thrive. I see my role as helping people and organizations move toward that future with clarity and courage.
