Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Howard.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For years, my life was measured by corporate milestones and office hours that never quite seemed to end. While I was building a career, I was missing the very thing I was working for: time. I knew I wanted more than just a weekend relationship with my children; I wanted to be the one there for the quiet moments, the milestones, and the everyday magic.
When my second child was born in 2018, everything clicked into focus. I realized that time wasn’t just passing—it was flying. I decided then and there to resign from the corporate world and turn my lifelong passion for photography into my full-time reality. I traded my briefcase for a camera bag, determined to build a business that allowed me to be a present mother while honoring my creative drive.
The transition wasn’t just about a change in scenery; it was about a change in purpose. By 2020, I took the leap of opening my own professional studio. I chose to specialize in maternity and newborn photography because I truly understand the weight of those moments. I know how fast the “newborn fog” fades and how precious it is to have a tangible, high-end memory of that strength and beauty.
Today, I don’t just take pictures. I provide a luxury experience for families who, like me, realize that these fleeting beginnings deserve to be preserved forever. I finally have the hours I dreamed of with my own children, and I spend my “work” days making sure other mothers have beautiful reminders of their own incredible journeys.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I first started out, I thought being a “successful photographer” meant being a wedding photographer. I spent years chasing the high-stakes adrenaline of wedding days—the frantic timelines, the 12-hour shifts on my feet, and the pressure of a “once-in-a-lifetime” event. But a few years in, I had to be honest with myself: my heart wasn’t in the celebration; it was in the connection. I was exhausted, and I realized I was trying to fit my soul into a mold that just didn’t shape me.
The breakthrough came when I looked at my own life. The moments that truly moved me weren’t the grand parties, but the quiet, transformative season of bringing my own children into the world. That was my “best time”—the softness of a nursery, the strength of a mother’s body, and the miracle of a brand-new life. I realized that this was the story I was meant to tell. Once I pivoted to maternity and newborns, everything shifted. I wasn’t just taking photos anymore; I was honoring a season I deeply loved.
But finding my niche was only half the battle. Coming from a corporate background, I brought a “hustle” mentality that was hard to break. Even after I opened my studio in 2020, I found myself tethered to my phone, answering emails at the dinner table and editing late into the night. I had started this business to be with my family, yet I was mentally miles away.
I had to learn the hardest lesson of all: how to turn it off.
I’ve had to be intentional about drawing a line in the sand. When I leave the studio and walk through my front door, the business owner stays behind. The emails can wait, the gallery can stay in the queue, and my phone goes away. To truly protect this balance, I made the choice to stop doing it all alone. I’ve since hired a few different services to help manage the moving parts of my business, allowing me to work smarter, not harder. By delegating the “busy work,” I’ve finally achieved what I set out to do in 2018. I’m not just a photographer; I’m a present mother who finally found her true North.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Because I know exactly how precious—and fleeting—your time is, I’ve designed my studio to be a sanctuary of ease. I don’t just provide a photo session; I provide a completely curated, full-service experience designed to take the weight off your shoulders.
From the moment you book, every detail is handled. You don’t have to worry about what to wear or how to coordinate your family; I provide a high-end client wardrobe and professional hair and makeup services right here in the studio. My goal is for you to simply show up, breathe, and enjoy the moment with your little ones.
But the service doesn’t end when the camera clicks. I believe your memories deserve a life beyond a digital file on a hard drive. I specialize in creating bespoke, high-end products for your home—from stunning wall art to heirloom albums—so you can walk away with tangible pieces of art that will be cherished for generations.
In my studio, luxury isn’t just about the final portrait; it’s about the peace of mind that comes when everything is taken care of.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We are seeing a massive shift back toward physical, high-end products. For a decade, everyone wanted digital files that ended up sitting on forgotten hard drives. Over the next few years, I see a resurgence in tangible legacy. Families are realizing that digital formats change, but a hand-crafted Italian leather album or museum-grade wall art is forever. My business is already ahead of this curve by focusing on full-service printing, and I see the industry moving toward ‘quality over quantity’ in a big way.
