Rising Stars: Meet Deborah Laplante

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Laplante.

Hi Deborah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Good Day. My name is Debb. On Instagram or Tiktok, it’s @haitiandebb. How I become Haitian Debb? Well.. it started when my mother and father met. I do not think I have to tell their love story but both my parents are Haitian. I am the first generation to be born in America.

Haiti or Ayati (in Haitian Creole, the naive language) means “land of tall mountains”. It is the most mountainous of the Caribbean countries. It is definitely a sight to see. Haitians are very passionate people. We do not stray away from expressing our emotions through communication, music, song, and dance. Dancing is a way of life in Haiti so I chose to dance with skates.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Skating is not a smooth journey. I was very clumsy when I first started so skating made me really focus on my balance. Skating is the reason that I got into fitness especially yoga. Being as clumsy as I was, I definitely wanted to use that as an inspiration to my other clumsy peeps out there so I would post my falls on Instagram. I actually called myself a “professional faller” not to encourage falling but to let people know it is okay to fall. Always get back up and try again. Success comes from trying.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an Information Technology technician. I install, troubleshoot, test software and/or hardware, network and computer systems. I am best known for being very personable especially with people that are not as technology savvy. Amazing customer serve goes a long way with network in life.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have a lot of people that I can name for sure. Thankful for everyone who was and is in my life but…

Honestly, I am going to start and end with my parents. They brought me into this world. They provided me with what I needed to become the strong-minded woman I am today. Parents or guardians are our first definition of love. I am very thankful for them.
