Rising Stars: Meet Ella B. of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ella B..

Hi Ella, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was a young girl, the first thing i wanted to be was a poet. I’m not sure how exactly i got into poetry at such a young age, but i remember writing numerous poems in my journal and being obsessed with how I can make my thoughts these beautiful emotional words. Alongside that I’ve always had a love for music, I think i honestly grew up in the best generation for it.

It wasn’t until I felt I had everything taken away from me, that I remembered I’m a creative person at heart. The older I got, the more indulged I got into basketball, relationships/friendships, family. etc. I think along the way I forgot about my self for a long time.

I underwent a career ending surgery playing basketball, got my heart broken for the first time, endured my parent’s divorce, and crumbling friendships. In the midst of feeling like I had nothing I decided one day to write a poem for the first time in a long time, and that evolved to me writing songs. Thus the start of my music journey.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has been a liberating experience for my mental health and emotions. I think a lot of us artists start out thinking every single new song we make is going to be a hit. We look to friends and family to support our music off rip, then get upset when they don’t. I used to be that person.

My greatest struggle was not being so hard on myself if I didn’t see success right away. Since music is something that seemed every spontaneous to people who were already familiar with me, I had to deal with judgements from others. As being a new artists, I hadn’t yet found my true sound and voice, so being there for myself and not relying on validation from others was crucial for me.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a recording artist and song writer. I make alternative music including genres such as pop rock and punk rap. I’d like to think I represent other “punk baddies” like myself being that is what aligns with my music. I’m all about embracing yourself, and speaking positivity in a way that still makes you feel authentic to you – no matter what that looks like. If you’re selfish with your time, own it. If this guy treat you like shit and you know you deserve better, be better! Still be real with yourself about your true feelings and ultimately decide to keep elevating, very much girl power! And with that my music is universal! And it still sounds lit you can literally party to my shit if you want!

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
The best advice I can give is to invest in yourself first, and not just money but really get to know yourself so you can truly just be yourself. I believe once you do that and work on who you want to evolve to, doors will naturally open. You will naturally meet people, and you can then tell if someone is for you or not. I’ve met so many great people by just staying consistent and showing love to others, someone is bound to notice you too for the right reasons.
