Today we’d like to introduce you to Everette Ligon.
Hi Everette, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello my name is Everette Ligon. I am from a small town in South Carolina, where there is only one stoplight. I left for the Air Force at 19 and worked as a fighter aircraft mechanic for ten years. I worked many jobs before understanding that entrepreneurship was my path in life. My mother quit her job in 1999 and started her company which is thriving today, so this is where I feel that I get this idea from. I spoke with her and asked her a few questions before deciding on a direction. After studying the market, the public need, and the profit margins, I decided to go into the drug testing market.
I started Filter Screening Services LLC in 2016. I adopted a mobile business model created by myself, mainly due to the need to reduce business overhead. This mobile business model, paired with 24-hour availability, created my own lane, which helped my business to stand out. My company is listed as top 5 business ranking on Google with 5-star reviews. I have partnered and worked with multiple notable companies, private airports, and many others. We also offer mobile Covid testing with instant results. Filter Screening Services is a CDC Registered company, we are D.O.T. Certified, and our Covid results are accepted by most airlines for international travel. I have done everything for my business, from the business cards to the logo, to the website, and I am proud Lol. Thank you.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road to business ownership has been very challenging. It is difficult to create a successful business when there is no blueprint. I have had struggles with learning where to find business leads. I have had to learn to create opportunities with minimal funding. Everything is a learning process, but certain tasks can seem unattainable without some helpful guidance or genuine feedback. I think the most difficult tasks were operating without funding and learning where to find business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am proud to be from a small place with such humble beginnings. I was raised by hard-working people, and they taught me that anything is possible. I have had many positions throughout my life, including being deployed to Afghanistan multiple times. Through all of these positions, when faced with adversity, you have to try to remain focused on the task and understand that “slow movement” is indeed a movement. No business blows overnight, so be prepared for the journey.
Can you talk about how you think about risk?
I started taking a risk when I decided to leave home and go to the military. I felt it was a bigger risk to stay where I was and fall into the same traps as my peers and family. When starting a business, I took a huge risk when quitting my full-time job in order to devote more time to my business. I was told by many people, including my wife, that I should give up and get a job. I refused to give up on my dream. I feel that taking the risk early to invest in myself has allowed me to help create a business situation that I am in.
