Rising Stars: Meet Joshua Grant of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Grant.

Hi Joshua, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I originally started in church. My uncle was a drummer before me and I would always watch him play behind the kit. Just at 21 months is when I first got the sticks in my hands are was playing in church on beat. Ever since then I fell in love with not just drums, but music in general. Music has always been a language that I could understand and ever since I picked the sticks up, It’s been a language that I have grown tremendously in. I’ve been blessed to have been on numerous TV shows, played for a lot of different people like George Clinton, Vashawn Mitchell, and Anthony Brown. Been fortunate to play for a corporate band where I have developed family like relationships with so many people! Got to experience sharing my gift with the world and just can not wait to show many more!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road! One of the biggest obstacles in my opinion isn’t being on the stage, playing for a lot of people, or even being on records. It’s the days that feel boring, the days where you don’t really have any gigs, where you don’t do anything but sit with your metronome and practice. Because us being human we have the urge and temptations to go outside of the core. The foundation which is practicing time. Because as a drummer that is the most important thing outside of musicality.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a drummer that likes to record cover arts and play for different artist around the world. I specialize in playing gospel music. I am known mostly off of social media or playing for my school pep rally on drums. I am most proud of how far I have come with this musical language on drums. What sets me apart is how much I connect with not only myself but with the band in general. There are times where I want to show off what I got but mainly I love hearing my peers go crazy on their instruments.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I won the first ever sonny emory Youth Drum contest! My first ever TV show was Harry Conic Jr show!
