Rising Stars: Meet Joshua Green of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Green.

Hi Joshua, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Jay Green, and I’m an independent R&B artist from Atlanta, Georgia. Music has always been a way for me to express emotions and experiences that can be difficult to put into words. Growing up, I was inspired by artists who weren’t afraid to be vulnerable in their music, and that inspired me to begin creating music of my own.

Like many independent artists, my journey hasn’t been a straight path. I’ve had to learn everything from songwriting and recording to content creation and marketing. There have been challenges, moments of self-doubt, and times when progress felt slow, but each experience helped shape me into the artist I am today.

What keeps me going is the connection music creates. I want listeners to hear my songs and feel understood. Whether they’re dealing with heartbreak, uncertainty, anxiety, or personal growth, I want my music to remind them they’re not alone.

Right now, I’m focused on building my career one step at a time and continuing to grow my audience through authentic storytelling and consistent work. My upcoming single, “Overthinking,” reflects a very real experience that many people face—getting trapped in your own thoughts and struggling to find peace. It’s one of my most personal releases so far and represents the direction I’m heading as an artist.

Today, I’m continuing to invest in my craft, connect with supporters, and build a foundation for a long-term career in music. While there’s still a long road ahead, I’m grateful for every opportunity to share my story and my music with others.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I believe the challenges have helped shape both my character and my music.

One of the biggest challenges has been building a music career independently. As an artist, you’re not just creating music—you also have to learn marketing, branding, content creation, networking, and how to connect with an audience. There have been times when I’ve questioned whether I was doing enough or moving fast enough, especially in an industry where success can seem immediate from the outside.

Another challenge has been staying consistent and believing in myself during periods when results weren’t showing up right away. It’s easy to get discouraged when you’re putting your heart into your work and growth feels slow. I’ve had to learn patience and trust the process.

I’ve also faced the challenge of being vulnerable through my music. A lot of my songs come from real emotions and personal experiences. Sharing those feelings with the world can be intimidating, but I’ve learned that honesty is what creates genuine connections with listeners.

What I’ve learned from every obstacle is that persistence matters. Each setback has taught me something valuable and pushed me to keep improving. Today, I view challenges as part of the journey rather than something that stands in the way of it. They continue to motivate me to work harder, grow as an artist, and stay committed to my vision.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an independent R&B artist, music video director, illustrator, and skateboarder based in Atlanta. At the center of everything I do is storytelling. Whether I’m writing a song, directing a visual, creating artwork, or expressing myself through skateboarding culture, I’m always looking for ways to connect with people and communicate emotion in an authentic way.

As a recording artist, I create music that explores themes of love, self-reflection, vulnerability, and personal growth. My goal is to make music that people can relate to and find comfort in. My upcoming single, “Overthinking,” is a great example of that approach, as it speaks to the internal battles many people face when dealing with anxiety, doubt, and relationships.

Beyond music, I’m also known for my work as a music video director and illustrator. I’ve always been passionate about visual art and enjoy bringing creative concepts to life through both video and design. Those skills have helped me develop a stronger artistic identity and allow me to be involved in every aspect of my creative projects.

One accomplishment I’m especially proud of is being selected for the Sharpie Ambassador Program while attending The Art Institute of Atlanta. That opportunity gave me confidence in my abilities as an artist and showed me that my creativity could make an impact beyond the classroom. It remains one of the milestones that motivated me to continue pursuing my creative goals.

What sets me apart is that I don’t see creativity as something limited to one medium. Music, visual art, directing, and skateboarding have all shaped who I am. Each influences the other, allowing me to bring a unique perspective to my work and create experiences that feel personal, honest, and genuine.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe the three most important qualities for success are discipline, commitment, and patience.

Life has a way of testing you. No matter what path you choose, there will be setbacks, disappointments, unexpected obstacles, and moments when giving up seems easier than continuing. I’ve learned that talent alone isn’t enough to get through those challenges. What carries you forward is the discipline to keep showing up, the commitment to stay true to your vision, and the patience to trust the process even when results aren’t immediate.

As an independent artist and creative, there have been times when progress felt slow or uncertain. During those moments, I’ve had to remind myself that meaningful growth takes time. Success isn’t built overnight—it’s built through consistency, perseverance, and a willingness to keep moving forward despite adversity.

These qualities extend beyond music. They apply to every area of life. When life throws curveballs your way, discipline keeps you focused, commitment keeps you grounded, and patience helps you endure the challenges that shape you into a stronger person. Those principles have guided me throughout my journey, and I believe they will continue to guide me wherever life takes me next.
