Rising Stars: Meet TARVISION

Today we’d like to introduce you to TARVISION.

TARVISION, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My photography/videography career started off a little weird. I never had the desire to become this great photographer one day; I had dreams of becoming your next Stephen A. Smith. In college, at ALABAMA STATE, I was a member of the student media as a Sports Editor. My homie GDud Visions, a Film Maker for TRU was my photographer during my time as a Sports Editor. During a basketball game, GDud gave me the opportunity to be behind the camera. He showed me a few basic tips and told me to give it a try.

At first, I was nervous, not because I thought I was going to do bad but because I thought I was going to drop the camera (laughs). But after he assured me that the camera and I was okay, I felt a little more comfortable about taking on this task. My first photo was trash, I can admit but GDud gave me a few more points and I went back at it. About 10 minutes or so of me getting the hang of this camera thing, I captured what I thought was a good shot. I showed GDud and indeed, it was a pretty decent shot, so I continue and my confidence building. A good quarter or two went by and I was getting really comfortable when BOOM, I stuck gold. I captured a shot that no matter what anyone thought, I wanted to do this. I showed my boy the shot and he agreed that it was money. With him agreeing, I knew I had to keep going. I like this feeling, I thought to myself. From then on I began my journey as a photographer. The start of my career was rocking, but I kept at it. Now I am going into year five, and I feel like I am a long way from where I want to be. I have did a lot and accomplished some things within these five years, but I want to accomplish a lot more.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This has not been smooth, but it has been knowledgeable. On this road, I have learned that having skills and understanding your camera is more important than just buying equipment. When I first begun with photography, I thought it was about the equipment you have. I quickly learned that it is how you use the equipment.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Sports Photography is what I do the best, in my opinion. Many have told me that I have a third eye, and I do see what others see. I see things that people cannot see with their naked eyes. I am most proud of just becoming a photographer/videographer and finding a new passion outside of sports.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Just be yourself and always give respect. Be optimistic and open to trying new ideas. I love what you do.
