Rising Stars: Meet Mokeira Makori

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Mokeira Makori.

Hi Mokeira, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, I’m a first-generation child of Kenyan immigrants. As a teenager, I loved art and the social media. I would draw and paint all the time but lacked the confidence to see it through. When the beauty community on YouTube emerged, I expanded my art from painting canvas to painting faces and filming it all in the process. For many years, it was a hobby that I enjoyed doing for myself and for others.

In 2023, I started my business, Divine Mokeira Artistry, to take my craft on professionally. I also specialize in microblading eyebrows and love the technology behind that. I’m very active on social media as a content creator as well. All handles are @divinemokeira, and I share makeup, fashion, trends, events, and more!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I believe my struggles were mostly based on my actions. In the past ten years of my interests, I have allowed the lack of confidence, consistency, and networking/marketing to hold me back. I decided in 2020, when the world was on its head, to be grateful for my talents and interests and be more intentional. I took the time to read books like Atomic Habits, The Law of Attraction, and The Mountain Is You to shape my mindset so I could get out of this idea of instant gratification when it comes to being an overnight sensation.

My fears of failure were stronger than my potential for a gradual success story. So I have to remind myself that as a baby, we had to crawl, then walk, then run, and in that process of learning, I fell multiple times, but I kept learning so I could get better, and I never gave up until I mastered it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a makeup artist, I do microblading of eyebrows, and I’m a content creator. I’m most proud of the work I do as an artist.

I get in the zone and really take my time to know the clients’ faces and what products and techniques work best on their faces the best. What sets me apart from others is my overall look. I make my clients look like themselves but just a little more glam!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I enjoy the amount of people who are out and about the most in the city. This city always seems to have something happening and you need to be in the know about it!

What I like the least are the prices and customer service, they don’t match! If prices are high, the customer service should be great as well and it’s just terrible! And that is with every kind of establishment, unfortunately. I pride myself on my affordable prices and immaculate customer service. I treat people the way they deserve to be treated!
