Rising Stars: Meet Liv Clements of Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liv Clements

Hi Liv, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It was early in my career I knew what I wanted to do. I would ask my family questions during Friday Night football games as if they were a player or coach. I loved the idea of being a Black woman working in sports. I got accepted into Indiana University Media School, where my career took off. From football, men’s and women’s basketball, softball, and more, I worked with all sports for IU and the Big Ten. I applied to so many internships, with my dream one being in Atlanta. I was doubtful but I got the call and got the internship weeks before needing to fly out there. I was the TNT Sports Production intern. In that role, I got to work with NBA TV, WNBA Weekly, and even do my own broadcast with Renee Montgomery and NBA legends like Earl Watson and Sam Mitchell. From there the rest has been history with so much more to accomplish.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been far from a smooth road. Especially being one of no black women or even people in the room. I learned early on that I needed to force myself in these rooms and not rely on handouts or help. Especially when looking for your dream job, it shouldn’t be easy, or it’s not for you. I always want to achieve something new and be better the next day, due to obstacles I have faced that set me back. I lacked confidence in the sports industry because I felt like I was doing it by myself. But now I use that to my advantage and go harder each day.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a sports reporter specifically for men’s basketball and football. I do everything from studio shows to pre/post-game interviews, sideline reporting, and more. I am known for making my conversations with athletes fun and real. They are more than an athlete and I portray that through my connections with them and conversations. I am most proud of how far I have come from all of this. It has been an honor that in the last year, I have worked with the top sports network and met some of the most talented athletes. What sets me apart is my trust in my faith, strengths, and confidence that I can do anything I set my mind to. A saying I go by is “For the lord your God will be with you wherever you go”, and I carry that with me every day. I never settle for anything less than what I can achieve and when I achieve it, I go for more.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I think something surprising about me is that as confident as I am in my work I still don’t feel like I have scratched the surface of my potential. I love what I do and love my work but I am still not satisfied with what I have accomplished. I can still see myself being greater than what I am now and accomplishing so much more.
