Today we’d like to introduce you to Miazza Walker.
Hi Miazza, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started crocheting at seven years old. My grandmother, who has a love for all things arts and crafts, was my first teacher! The first thing I learned to make was a blanket for the upcoming birth of my little sister and my love for crocheting was born! It has been an evolution that matched my different stages in life. In elementary school, I made and sold American Girl Doll clothes. In middle school, I began making headbands and earrings. In high school, Miazza Couture became what we know it today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road! It took four years to begin to get consistent orders and rely on it full time. Today, things are much smoother but I still deal with adversity. Sometimes I receive backlash from the crochet community because the members are from a different generation and they do not always agree with my creations. Overall, I have been shown a tremendous amount of love. I am grateful!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a crochet artist and clothing designer. I specialize in custom-made trendy and unique pieces. I am surprised that I stayed consistent since such a young age! I am very proud of my consistency! My style sets me apart from others. My creations are out of the box. Also, I don’t fit the typical crochet demographic; my age sets me apart!
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe risk-taking can be rewarding! I have taken some risks in my designs and they have been some of my most sought after items!
