Today we’d like to introduce you to Nakita Lochard.
Hi Nakita, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I fell in love with her and makeup when I walked into the salon with my mom. I loved watching my mother and the other ladies get transformed. Even at a young age, I could tell some of them didn’t come in with the biggest amount of confidence, but after getting their hair washed, conditioned, trimmed, and straightened, they were new women walking out of the door. I admired the stylists in the salon. They were skilled and precise. The confidence they had and provided for their clientele I knew I wanted that. I wanted to be as talented as them and bring out the best in someone, and getting paid for it absolutely fascinated me. After I completed university, I pursued my childhood dream by attending hair school. While there, I discovered makeup and fell in love with it. My mentors and friends in the field helped mold and shape the way I do makeup today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Freelancing isn’t the smoothest road; it takes faith and hard work. Having Faith in yourself is so crucial; many of us struggle with having faith in ourselves. Over the years, I’ve discovered that surrounding myself with people in the beauty industry who love what they do, they’re talented and honest. If you have that with 2 or 3 people, the work will come, or just create it!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

I’m proud of my growth as an artist throughout the years. I’ve learned that as a Freelance H/MUA, you have to be able to pivot and remain solution focused.
