Rising Stars: Meet Nicky Nixon of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicky Nixon.

Hi Nicky, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always believed that the best experiences come down to the details.

Originally from Charlotte, my career began with Aveda, where I discovered a passion for leadership, mentorship, and creating exceptional client experiences. That journey led me to serve as Director of the Cosmetology School at The Aveda Institute Atlanta, where I guided future professionals while overseeing the daily operations of one of the industry’s premier education programs. Those years taught me how to lead with intention, build trust, and create experiences that leave a lasting impression.

From there, I joined Drybar as District Manager for the Atlanta market, where I had the privilege of opening two franchise locations and growing the business to more than 100 employees serving the Metro Atlanta area. Leading teams through expansion strengthened my skills in operations, organization, and delivering a consistently elevated client experience across multiple locations.

Real estate felt like a natural next chapter because it brings together everything I love: people, design, organization, and strategy.

Today, as Listing Manager for the Anna K Intown team, I help transform homes into their very best version before they hit the market. From coordinating every detail behind the scenes to staging each space with purpose, I love creating an experience that feels seamless for our clients and unforgettable for buyers. I have always enjoyed seeing the potential in a space, whether that means decluttering, rearranging, or adding thoughtful finishing touches that help a home truly shine.

What I enjoy most is making the selling process feel effortless. I believe every client deserves clear communication, thoughtful guidance, and a level of care that makes them feel confident every step of the way.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like most people building a career, I have wrestled with imposter syndrome more than once. There were moments when I questioned whether I belonged in the room, especially as I stepped into larger leadership roles and took on responsibilities I had never faced before. Over time, I realized confidence doesn’t come before the challenge. It comes from working through it. Every difficult decision, successful project, and lesson learned helped replace self doubt with experience.

One of the biggest challenges of my career was managing new construction projects while simultaneously running a business. Every day required balancing timelines, budgets, client expectations, vendor relationships, and the needs of my team. It taught me how to stay organized under pressure, communicate proactively, and solve problems quickly without losing sight of the bigger picture.

Building teams has also been one of my greatest responsibilities. Hiring the right people is only the beginning. Developing them into confident professionals and future leaders requires patience, consistency, and genuine investment. I learned that leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about creating an environment where people feel supported, challenged, and empowered to grow.

Perhaps the most personal challenge has been finding a way to build a meaningful career while also showing up for my family. There have been seasons that demanded long hours, difficult choices, and constant prioritization. Through it all, I have learned that success is not measured only by professional milestones, but by creating a life where my family and my career can both thrive.

Like every leader, I have made mistakes along the way. Some were small, while others carried greater consequences. What has defined my career is not avoiding mistakes, but owning them. I have learned to admit when I am wrong, take responsibility, learn from every experience, and use those lessons to become a stronger leader. Growth has rarely come from getting everything right. It has come from being willing to learn every time I got something wrong.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
People often think a Listing Manager’s job is administrative. They picture someone behind a computer entering information into the MLS and checking boxes. While those tasks are certainly part of the process, they represent only a small piece of what I do.

Every home has a story. My role is to uncover that story and bring it to life in a way that helps buyers see themselves living there long before they ever walk through the front door.

Before a home ever reaches the market, I work alongside my sellers to develop a thoughtful strategy. That means creating a plan to declutter, stage, and prepare the home so every space feels intentional. I want buyers to walk through the front door and immediately feel something. The experience begins with the first photo they see online and continues through every showing.

I approach every listing as if it were a brand launch. I build a customized marketing and advertising strategy that highlights not only the home’s features but the lifestyle it offers. Professional photography, compelling storytelling, targeted digital marketing, social media campaigns, agent outreach, and strategic pricing all work together to maximize exposure and generate demand.

What sets me apart most is the relationship I build with my clients. Selling a home is often one of the largest financial decisions someone will ever make. It is emotional, exciting, and sometimes overwhelming. I never want my clients to feel like they are navigating that process alone.

Communication is one of my greatest priorities. I make sure sellers always know what is happening, what buyers are saying, and how we can adjust our strategy based on market feedback. I believe transparency builds trust, and trust creates confidence.

At the end of the day, I am not simply managing listings. I am guiding families through an important chapter of their lives, protecting one of their greatest assets, and doing everything possible to present their home at its absolute best. That combination of strategy, creativity, and partnership is what makes my approach different and why I take so much pride in the work I do.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Finding a mentor can feel a little like trying to pick the right guide before you even know the full path you are on. Especially in real estate, where everyone looks polished on the outside, it is easy to assume the loudest success story is the one worth following.

I have learned so much from my mentor in this industry. Not just strategy or numbers, but how to actually move through the hard parts of the work with clarity and confidence. What I have come to understand is that the right mentor is not simply the person with the best production or the flashiest results.

The right mentor is willing to be in it with you.

They are the ones who will sit down and make the calls with you. Run the numbers with you. Talk through the deal that does not make sense yet until it does. They are not just observing your growth from a distance. They are actively part of it.

A great mentor also does not hold back what they know. There is no gatekeeping. No quiet competition. Just a willingness to share openly so you can move faster, avoid unnecessary mistakes, and build real confidence in your own decisions.

The best mentorship relationships do not feel like someone standing above you. They feel like someone walking beside you, slightly ahead, but always reachable.
