Today we’d like to introduce you to Princess Kimber.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Music has always been a part of who I am. I was born into it. My mom and dad actually met in the recording studio because they were both artists, so music has surrounded me for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I would go to the studio with my mom and watch her write and record songs from start to finish, sometimes in just a couple of hours. Seeing her creativity firsthand inspired me more than I realized at the time. She even had me recording in the studio when I was still a kid. Back then it was just something fun that I loved doing, but as I got older, it became a real passion, and I knew I wanted to take it seriously.
My journey took an unexpected turn in 2023. I came across Lil Kari’s Hood Christmas Carols on tiktok and noticed people were putting their own spin on them. At the time, I was working at Waffle House, and during one of my shifts I decided I wanted to write my own version. As soon as I got home from work, I recorded it and posted it without expecting much. To my surprise, it took off almost immediately. What started as one fun idea turned into an entire series that reached far more people than I ever imagined.
Today, I’m grateful to have built a community of over 215,000 followers on TikTok by sharing my music and my voice. Looking back, it’s amazing to see how the little girl who spent her days in the recording studio with her mom is growing into the artist she dreamed of becoming. I’m incredibly thankful for everyone who has supported my journey, and I’m excited to keep creating music and seeing where this path takes me next.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think the biggest obstacle that I’ve encountered along the way is battling with having to stay consistent. In this day and age getting recognized on social media is something that anyone can do but what separates people is who’s consistent and who’s not. Being that I work a regular 9 to 5 at the moment, it’s been a little bit hard for me to find that balance between working and then still making time to be a creator. Sometimes I even have to go on my break and record certain videos in the car because I just know when I get home I’ll be too tired to make content.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a singer, and some would say that I specialize in jingles or Christmas carols😂. Others may say I specialize in covers. What a lot of people don’t know is I actually have real songs and I write a lot of real music. I feature a lot of snippets or teasers of my music on TikTok and on Instagram but I have yet to drop a project. I’m planning to drop one before the end of this year so definitely be on the lookout for that. but I’m probably most known for my Christmas carols and they’re definitely one of the things that I am most proud of. I watched something that I thought was gonna be small, grow into almost a whole brand for myself and although it’s not something that I want to forever be known for, I’m grateful to have even got my foot in the door with the Christmas carols.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
In my case, I didn’t necessarily have to find a mentor because I have my mom and I have other musically inclined people in my family and life that I’ve been fortunate enough to be mentored by. But the best advice I can give as far as finding a mentor and networking would be to reach out to whoever. Don’t be scared or be discouraged by someone’s following or title. There’s nothing wrong with asking for advice, guidance, or even just promoting yourself. You never know what doors it’ll open for you.
