Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodney Iler.
Rodney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Baltimore, MD, and I now reside in McDonough, GA. I grew up in Shoal Creek Baptist Church, and ever since then, I’ve been a worshipper. Now, I am one of the graphic designers and media team servants at Excel Church Worldwide. Here’s just a little background about me. For three years, I attended Kilombo Academic Cultural Institute, where I have accomplished many goals. From creating yearbooks to hosting talent shows all the way to becoming student council president. Being in such leadership positions helped me realize my calling to entrepreneurship.
Moving forward, I developed a love for photography which led me to open a “Legendary Business Center,” which included services like photography, landscaping, singing, and tutoring. After learning some lessons, maturing, and so much more growth that business transformed in 2019, Legendary became Rodney Iler Ministries and the services include singing, logos, and web design. Since then, my business has just been evolving into something bigger than me. After a year of Rodney Iler Ministries, I had one more major business shift, which was becoming a legal business as Rodney Iler LLC. Rodney Iler LLC has two entities, including Rodney Iler Music, where I continue to release singles, ep’s, and albums at the end of July, and Rodney Iler Designs, where I do all things social media, graphic design, websites, and so much more!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. In my journey as an artist and entrepreneur, I’ve experienced much rejection. I’ve had well-known people work with me and by the end of the project tell me that my work is not good enough to make it anywhere. With my first two businesses, I tried to start the business without a plan and was trying to figure it all out as time went on, which caused me to fail a lot.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a graphic designer and recording gospel artist. As a graphic designer, it is my top priority to make sure that I’m not just designing but that I am taking my client’s project to its fullest capacity by helping them in every aspect of the project to the best of my ability. That, along with my reasonable pricing, is what I think sets me apart from other people in my industry. With my business but certainly, in my ministry, it’s my main goal to be helping someone. I never want to sing a song and the people listening leave the same way they came in. One of my most proudful most thus far, I’d have to say, is putting together a full live recording concert on January 9, 2021. This was a major accomplishment for me because I was able to plan out everything song lyrics, lighting choices, stage placements, etc.
What matters most to you?
I will always live and do everything I do to help people. It is such a passion for me because, believe it or not. It’s something that doesn’t come to me very often. So, instead of complaining about not having help for myself, I choose to give to everyone else what wasn’t offered to me. Oftentimes I go above and beyond for everyone else because I never want to see anyone go through any of the troubles I went through to get where I am today.
