rocko jones shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning rocko, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
the first 90 minutes of my day starts off with firstly thanking god for waking me up and then i begin listening to my morning playlist which incudes jazmine sullivan. j.howell and of course a little beyonce lol and then i begin going over my schedule for the day for my clients before i get to the salon

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
of course. im Rocko or as some might like to call me ROCKODON. im a hairstylist based in alabama. i specialize in natural healthy hair. natural installs including sew ins and quickweaves of any kind. i truly believe every install should fit the look and personality of every client. which is why i built my brand THEROCKOEXPERIENCE because i truly belive its an experience when you come sit in my chair. l listen to your wants and needs and problems and then i take it into my own hands and figure out what best works for you. after that me and my clients build an amazing relationship together. i trust my clients to trust that everything i do is for them and whats best. my goal is to honestly give every client i service the safe space to trust and talk to me about anything
THEROCKOEXPERIENCE is not just a brand its truly a lifestyle. i remember starting off doing hair in my living room, which hard orange painted walls lol. and as i continued to flourish all my clients would say i cant wait to come to the orange room lol and then that became a thing. and when i opened my shop and had my grand opening it was a huge success and brought me so many more clients. after that i begin making my own hair products from wax sticks to lace glue and so much more. as of now im working on a full a home silk press kit for my clients that cant always come see me. STAY TUNED. of course itll be epic i mean its me lol. the only thing that really makes me grind this hard is knowing that my mom is watching me from above. she was literally my first client and she wanted her hair done everyday lol

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
wow. before listening to where god wanted me to be and who he wanted me to be i was timid. shy. unaware. and very unsure about myself.
you have to think back then 2014, you didnt have many male open men doing hair. and if you did they were very feminine. which is cool and i dont judge by any means i just knew that wasnt my tea lol. so i wandered about where i would fit into this industry

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
losing my mom was probably the hardest and most defining wound i can remember. at such a young age of 21 she left this world. i didnt know anything about life (i thought) so at that time i truly didnt know how i would survive knowing she didnt get a chance to see me become the man i am today BUT thats where i decided to lock in with the man upstairs and understand shes still here with me and guiding me through life. her soul and spirit lives within me which is how i decided to live. and thats also how i decided to heal. knowing that every moment of success, failure ,good or bad shes watching me and helping me through life with her wisdom and grace. shes so effortlessly amazing so i know shes cheering me on in the background so i live to make her proud.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
in a way , yes. if you know me you know im always down. i always on go and im always a fun time. i dont believe in being in the public if your feeling negative so for me people dont really see that side of me because if im feeling that way ill stay in the house and take myself a mental day in order to grasp whats got me feeling that way. so for the most part yes im exactly who i think i i am but also what you see is what you get with me lol

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
its funny only because i joke with my clients all the time about quitting but not actaully and i had a few of them cry before i tell them im just joking lol. i would have to say theyll miss the energy. the love. the relaness that comes from my salon.
