Shadow Kat of Midtown on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Shadow Kat. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Shadow, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I find myself indifferent with time mostly because I have a lot of bookings I’m constantly moving to the next thing being as consistent as possible. But when I am able to get in my flow state and really sit with my creativity if it’s painting, doing a new routine or choreography or trying a new stunt creating a new look just having the time to create and be the god of my own creation. My truest self comes out when I’m expressing and articulating emotions that I can’t communicate with words.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m ShadowKat a burlesque performer, R&B artist, editorial model, and digital creator based in Atlanta. My work lives at the union of sensuality, art, and self-expression. On stage, I use burlesque to tell stories through movement and emotion; as a model, I bring high-fashion concepts to life with a dark, cinematic edge; and through my social media platforms, I share my creative world with an audience that connects to both my artistry and authenticity.
I’m a creature of the balance between softness and strength, mystery and intention which runs through the DNA of everything i create
My art pulls from real experiences—healing, heartbreak, power, and rebirth—and turns them into moments people can see, hear, and feel. Almost like a sense of freedom. I see art as both survival and seduction, a way to turn pain, insecurity self doubt into power.
My debut EP, 9 Lives, is out now, capturing that journey of feline sensuality in sound and emotion. It’s moody, bold, and vulnerable—just like me. Through the music, the performances, on the runway or my social media platforms, my goal is to inspire people to embrace every version of themselves, especially the ones they had to fight to become maybe even the ones they are told to hide and shame away from the world. Full use of your free will.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Honestly, The one with myself. I’m an only child of a very hard working mom so I spent lots of time alone really thinking. About myself ,about the world about how the world sees me about how I see myself in the world really work through my emotions with myself truly helped me develop a true understanding of my core values, wants, desires. I knew I was meant to do something life changing very early on in life because of my ability to have lots of introspection when it came to my own thoughts. I knew that if I could see all I could do then as a kid that means it’s already transpired in my future.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I feel like giving up all the time , I’m a dramatic scorpio with a need to dramatize so any inconvenience and I’m ready to run. Now as a more evolved person though I know that feeling is temporary there’s no way I could give up now with how far I’ve already came and through much worse things. I almost feel like those moments when i feel like I wanna almost “give up” are just moments I’m shedding whatever fear, mindset or previous limitations I was putting on myself

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I didn’t want to make up anything because I feel like that wouldn’t be authentic. So i asked a few close friends their answer.

I’d say your friends/family are important to you, having their loyalty for sure, & support, also your craft, you express yourself best when you create !

What i would say really matters to u are a couple things. one being following ur dreams and doing the things that make u happy. no matter what’s going on in ur life u always put ur art and creativity first and make sure that ur doing things that u love to do. u never let that part of urself fade. and another thing i would say that really matters to u is deep connection with people that u love and being a reminder to the ppl in ur life that real love is there & exists thru u

Your modeling and music matters a lot to you. I have seen you make real life hard sacrifices for both. Also, both modeling and music I know you study profusely. These are 2 things you do I know really matters to you because of the work you put into it

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
People may look at my legacy and only see how I confront my darkness head on and embrace the sensuality from within. It’s more than about just being able to face my darkness it’s channeling all of my energy not just good but all not just bad but all. I think people only see a one sided picture of my full presence and energy instead of having the patience and willingness to truly see beyond the shadows and understand the true motives and intentions of the artistic creations that I produce.
People will misunderstand me something like a Marylin Monroe , Donna Summer , Janet Jackson women who know themselves and aren’t afraid to showcase themselves to the world in an unapologetic way.
