We recently had the chance to connect with Danielle Harris and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Danielle, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity is most important to me. Both personally and professionally. Sometimes it can be very hard to discern who really has it and doesn’t have a hidden agenda. It’s also hard because once people know you have it, they may try to take advantage of your honesty to manipulate or control you so you meet their demands.
They’ll twist your words, overstep boundaries, exploit your weaknesses, gaslight or make you a target for gossip.
It becomes very lonely in your personal relationships and a challenge on what choices to make professionally BUT it is incredibly rewarding if you trust yourself and do the right thing. But you have to be strong.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Danielle Harris and I am a voice actor, mom and wife. My brand is Brainstorm Recordings LLC for Danielle Harris Voiceovers. I started in 2020 and my life has not been the same since. I quite my full-time job as a Communications Supervisor in public safety after 13 years of service and went full-time in voice acting in June of 2021. Since then I have worked with major brands like Georgia Power, DC Lottery, CT Lottery, Cummins, Hibbett Sports, Canva Pro, Walmart, Microsoft, Dollar General, Michelob Ultra, Sonos and more. My voice has been described as relatable, calming, smooth and strong.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment that really shaped how I see the world is when I became a mother. Around that time is when the veil broke and many things became clearer, important or not as important as I thought. What I thought about success changed as well as the difference between happiness and joy. It’s really been a journey both professionally and personally since then. A new chapter of my life.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I think the most defining wound of my life is trust. I have been let down countless times by people. At this point it isn’t surprising anymore just disappointing. Trust is hard for me but I also desire to trust others more. There have been many times I went against my gut and been upset with myself more than the person and there have been times I feel a little guilty with not trusting people or “the process” more, but at this point in my life, I think it’s wise to pray more, focus on my relationship with God, continue to work on my character and continue to develop my discernment. I definitely have scars. Many have healed with time and some are still tender, but I know who and where to put my trust now.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire Christ for His character. I am a believer in Jesus Christ and I strive to have the character of Christ. It might sound cliche but to be able to forgive endlessly, love unconditionally, have the compassion, empathy, grace and never give up or sacrifice who you are and how you ought to be is what I strive for and it is HARD. People and circumstances test you constantly. It’s not easy to do at all and it’s very lonely. I’ve experienced that a lot of people do not really care about their character. They care about money, opportunity, clout and will manipulate to confuse and control others. I don’t want to ever be that kind of person.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story I hope people tell about me when I’m gone is that I was a GOOD person. Not from what they could see from the surface level, but at the core. That integrity is really important to me. That I had a strong sense of justice and I am a passionate about helping people or passionate about things that are very important to me. I am a hard worker. I don’t expect anything from anyone that I wouldn’t do myself and that I am a good friend, a good listener. I’m thoughtful, caring and giving. I’m sillier than people would expect and that I don’t fit in any particular box.
That’s what I hope people see.
