Story & Lesson Highlights with Jade Asante-Selby of Metro Atlanta

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jade Asante-Selby. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Jade , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My children.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an event planner based in the metro Atlanta area, and my passion lies in turning my clients’ visions into unforgettable experiences. I work closely with each client, collaborating every step of the way to ensure their unique ideas and personalities shine through. For me, it’s not just about organizing an event — it’s about creating a lifelong memory that they and their guests will cherish forever.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
One of the most life-altering moments for me was experiencing a stillbirth. It completely changed the way I see the world. In that moment, I felt powerless — like everything I thought I could control had slipped through my hands. It was a pain that forced me to rebuild myself from the inside out. That experience taught me that life isn’t always fair, but even in the face of deep loss, we have to find the strength to move forward. It gave me a new perspective on resilience, purpose, and the importance of cherishing every moment.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me that everything in life has its time — and sometimes, it simply isn’t your moment. There are seasons where you’re not meant to move forward just yet because there are things you still need to learn, feel, and grow through. While success can be rewarding, it was through suffering that I gained a deep appreciation for life, for stillness, and for the strength it takes to keep going. It taught me patience, humility, and the value of every small victory.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is very much a part of who I am — it’s the version that shows up for others, not based on who they want me to be, but who I choose to be for them. It’s the version of me that leads with strength, resilience, and presence. But if I’m being honest, there are times when I feel I set aside parts of my true self in order to be what others need. So while it is me, it’s not always the full picture. It’s a balance I’m constantly learning how to navigate.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I have learned to clap for myself even when I cannot hear others doing so. I don’t find my worth or value in the praise of others.
