We recently had the chance to connect with Lauren Watson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Whenever I’m singing live on stage.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Laur’e, and I’m a passionate music connoisseur with a focus on singing and songwriting. I’ve been singing for over 10 years and have a degree in audio engineering, which has allowed me to expand my creative horizons.
I began my journey as a background vocalist, working with incredible artists like Patti LaBelle, Josh Groban, and Neil Patrick Harris. One of the most memorable experiences in my career was touring Europe on a gospel tour, performing in the Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland for several months.
In addition to singing, I’m also a jingle writer. A number of my jingles have been featured on nationally syndicated radio stations like Power 107.9 and 94.5 here in Atlanta. What sets me apart is my ability to wear many different hats—whether it’s voice-over work, music production, songwriting, or vocal editing, I’m a one-stop shop. This versatility allows me to have complete creative control over the work I produce, which has been such a blessing.
Right now, I’m focusing more on live performances and pursuing music sync opportunities for film and TV. I’m also open to performing at private or corporate events while continuing to create my own original music.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The aspect of myself that has fulfilled its purpose and must now be released is the part that constructed false narratives about who I am. It is the part that struggled with self-love, constantly sought validation, and turned to the wrong sources in search of it. This chapter was crucial in understanding my growth and transformation. I now release the person I once was and wholeheartedly embrace the person I have become.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back the most in life is the fear of success. Upon deeper reflection, I realized that fear itself has often been the dominant narrative shaping my experiences. As I’ve progressed in life, I discovered that I also fear letting go of the comforts and habits of my former self. While I recognize that clinging to these old patterns will prevent me from reaching my true potential, it feels much like staying with the familiar, even when it no longer serves me. Since this realization, I have made a conscious effort to overcome this fear, understanding that doing so is essential for the growth and development of my higher self.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest misconceptions in the music industry is the belief that success, particularly as a singer, is dependent on age. This notion is simply untrue. If it were, we wouldn’t see examples of artists who achieve major recognition later in life. Jelly Roll, for instance, received his first music award in his late 30s. Similarly, Samuel L. Jackson didn’t land his first significant acting role until he was 50. The key takeaway is to remain focused on your journey. Success is not bound by age, and it’s crucial not to let others project their limitations or fears onto you.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I believe many people may misunderstand my legacy, perceiving it as chaotic or disorganized. However, it is more accurately described as “organized chaos.” I thrive in an environment without pressure, where I have the freedom to pursue tasks on my own terms, without adhering to a strict order or timeline. My guiding principle has always been, “It will get done.” While this approach may not be suitable for everyone, it is what works best for my creative and free-spirited nature.
