Story & Lesson Highlights with Samantha Bush of Tuscaloosa

We recently had the chance to connect with Samantha Bush and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Samantha, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
The recent moment that made me proud was when people told me that I motivate them.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, I am Chef Sam Bush, the proud owner of Rosie Lee Chef Services, which I established in 2022. Our mission is to consistently deliver exceptional cuisine and build lasting relationships with our esteemed clients. We tailor our menus daily, source ingredients based on client preferences, and remain attentive to their needs. Our company’s brand extends far beyond the surface level. We actively engage in community outreach initiatives and provide culinary instruction. Notably, our company was recognized during Black History Month at Shelton State Community College. Throughout my career as a chef, I have been fortunate enough to embark on an incredible journey. My early experiences working on ships, traveling worldwide, have been truly remarkable. During my tenure on the ship, I had the opportunity to work internationally and within the United States, with Japan being a standout favorite destination. The culture and cuisine were truly captivating. Born in Gainesville, Florida, and raised in Alabama, I take immense pride in my accomplishments, particularly the ability to travel, pursue my passion, and give back to my community. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all those who have genuinely supported my company.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was a child, I believe I wouldn’t succeed because of the lack of motivation. There’s no truth to that.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Anytime I was sad or scared as a child I would listen to music or cook.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely! I’m the same person all the time.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
People will misunderstand that my legacy is bigger than cooking. It’s about reach one teach one, it’s about not giving up, and being the best version of yourself. It’s about gaining family.
