We’re looking forward to introducing you to Shashi Charles. Check out our conversation below.
Shashi, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Coffee, coffee, and more coffee! Then emails, blog stats check, read other blogs, etc. Then a quick workout and start my FT job.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I am Shashi. I have been sharing healthy fusion recipes inspired by my time in Comonbo, Sri Lanka and Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. with my readers since 2013. I hope to convince people that dining in can be tasty, healthy, budget-friendly, and fun!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my daughter
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Insecurity – especially with money. I was forced to do my blog full-time a while ago in 2019. I was laid off from my then full-time job and I was afraid it just wouldn’t bring in the money I needed to support myself and my then-teenage daughter. But it brought in more than I expected. I am wrestling with working full-time on my job currently and moving on from my fulltime gig. But, the current economic uncertainty is holding me back.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
This is controversial, but I used to go to a church that would say that the only way to heaven in through Jesus. When the pastor was asked if people from other religions would be excluded, he would say, not unless they believed in Jesus. I adopted that then. But, to me now, that’s divisive and demeaning. I truly believe now that God loves everyone, and heaven is for all, no matter their religious affiliation.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
Not taking chances. Not asking hard questions, Not taking a leap of faith.
