TANESHA JACKSON shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning TANESHA, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I’m being called to step fully into sharing my story and offering direct services to help kidney warriors. For a long time, I was afraid to put myself out there beyond content—afraid of judgment, afraid of not being “enough,” or even afraid of the responsibility that comes with people relying on me. But now, I feel called to go deeper—through my ebook, motivational coaching, and creating a real community for people on dialysis and waiting for transplants.
It’s no longer just about surviving my own journey—it’s about using my voice, my experience, and my strength to encourage others to keep fighting for their health and their life.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Tanesha Jackson, and I’m the founder of Kidney Motivation. I started this platform after spending six years on dialysis and ultimately receiving a kidney transplant. My journey taught me firsthand how heavy, lonely, and overwhelming kidney disease can feel—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Through Kidney Motivation, I share encouragement, education, and personal insights to help other kidney warriors stay hopeful while navigating dialysis, the transplant process, and everyday life. What makes my brand unique is that it’s rooted in lived experience—I’m not speaking from theory, but from walking the same path. I know what it feels like to sit in that chair for hours, to face rejection from transplant centers, and to fight for my health one day at a time.
Right now, I’m focused on building resources like ebooks, digital guides, and 1-on-1 motivation coaching to support people on their health journeys. My goal is to remind every kidney warrior that they are not alone—and that with the right mindset and tools, they can keep showing up for their life and their healing.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
Definitely my dad! He taught me early on that nothing in life is truly “free” and that we must work hard to achieve the things we need and want. From him, I learned that with hard work comes not just results, but also pride and freedom. His lessons shaped the way I approach life, my career, and even the way I show up in my journey with kidney disease—I know that putting in the effort pays off in the long run.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
A time I truly felt like giving up was when I was “in clinic” at the dialysis center. Sitting there surrounded by so much sadness, I remember thinking, “Damn… maybe this is just going to be my reality.” In that moment, the weight of it all really hit me.
But what I’ve learned since then is that even in those dark spaces, hope can be reignited. That moment became a turning point for me—I decided that while I couldn’t control everything about my health, I could control how I showed up for myself and how I chose to keep fighting.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I believe my closest friends would say that honesty and truth really matter to me. Nothing bothers me more than dishonesty—it feels like the ultimate slap in the face and a deep sign of disrespect. For me, honesty is non-negotiable. I value people who are real, upfront, and genuine, because that’s how I choose to live my own life.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m with my family and close friends. That’s when I can be fully myself, with no pressure or pretenses. They mean the world to me, and being surrounded by their love and support gives me a sense of calm that nothing else can.
