We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tyler Toney. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Tyler , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Energy is everything. I believe your presence is your power — it’s the first thing people feel before you ever speak a word. I live by that every single day, and I’ve seen how showing up with intention can change not only my path, but someone else’s. The way you carry your energy determines whether you break down or break through. To me, it’s perspective: instead of saying, ‘I can’t believe I messed up again,’ I ask, ‘What can I learn so I never repeat it?’ Intelligence can give you knowledge, and integrity can earn you trust, but energy is the essence — it’s the fuel behind how I choose to live and work.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Tyler Toney — I’m a SAG-E actor, stunt performer, filmmaker, and director based in Atlanta, GA. Originally from Chicago, I moved to Atlanta with my partner in 2023 to chase this dream from the ground up. No connections, no family here — just ambition, discipline, and support. Since then, I’ve wrapped my first lead role in a SAG feature film, created and starred in four original short films, and collaborated with some of Atlanta’s most passionate filmmakers. I just shot new headshots with one of my favorite photographers, Slingshot ATL, and I’m currently training with ATL Stunts while preparing for upcoming roles. Right now, I’m focused on sharpening my craft, leveling up my physical performance, and pouring into the work that will speak for itself. Off-screen, I’m a Marvel and DC fan at heart, a pasta enthusiast, and someone who values time with my partner and puppy, and staying active.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was the kid who always followed the rules, even when it meant ignoring what I truly wanted. In college, I was on the path to a career I wasn’t passionate about — playing it safe, searching for truth but too afraid to speak it, blending in to avoid conflict even if it meant dimming my own light. I built a life that lacked confidence, voice, and, honestly, a backbone. It wasn’t until my partner and I made the bold move from Chicago to Atlanta that I hit reset. I gave myself permission to step out of my comfort zone, make my own choices, and learn from the risks. That’s when everything changed. The world demanded I step up, be fearless, analytical, and relentless — and I answered that call. Had I not, I’d still be stuck asking myself the one question I hate the most: “What if?”.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Depleting my savings account because I couldn’t afford rent was honestly a very low point for me- it was within our first year of moving out, too. As someone who grew up in an environment of structure, stability, and knowing what came next, I was scared shitless. I worked a serving job that required a lot from me but little return. The SAG-AFTRA strike had just happened, so all work was at a standstill- I had no representation at that time and didn’t understand what was happening. My partner and I were in an apartment with only what could fit in our cars, and of course, I wasn’t going to ask my parents for help because I thought it would result in “I told you”. It was rough. I almost gave up and settled with the fact that “maybe I’m just not built for more”. I’m honestly blessed to have my partner; she taught me that energy and perspective are how you push forward and learn from mistakes. I started using my pain and turning it into power, I stopped feeling sorry for myself, and instead started thinking, “What can I learn from this so we can avoid this in the future?”. I think what healed that part of me that was struggling was giving myself permission that “It’s okay to make mistakes” and “We will find a way regardless of what happens”. It’s still something I deal with today, but substantial growth from then to now.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
There are a lot of lies we tell ourselves in this business: “Great things come to those who wait,” “You have to live in L.A. to succeed,” and the classic — “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” Honestly? That’s bullshit. In my experience, it’s not just who you know — it’s who knows you. You can meet every producer, casting director, and filmmaker in the world, but if you haven’t made an impression, you’re just another face in the room. The real power comes from being known for what you do, what you bring, and how you show up. That’s why reach, consistency, and authenticity matter most. When people recognize your name, your work, or your presence, opportunities start to come to you instead of you always chasing them.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
I’d say enjoying the luxury of my youth. Travelling more specifically and staying out late to party, hang out, etc. I’m a homebody, and I don’t enjoy going out. If I don’t have to, I won’t, haha. I love travelling though and seeing new places, but I don’t do it enough because I choose not to invest in that. I need to start travelling more while I’m still young and not have as many responsibilities.
